Which Option is Better for Direct Forum Traffic?

I will promote my site through forums, respond to forum threads and drop relevant links in a natural way(never spam).

Which option is better for direct forum traffic? No SEO

1) Answering NEW forum thread: Act fast, if i can potentially be the first people to respond, my comment must appear at the START of the thread , which will attract more clicks.

2) Answering POPULAR forum thread: usually popular thread had many comment pages, according to the date/time of the comment, my comment will appear at the END of the thread , However popular forum thread always had several thousand views.

Need to think different and be part of the community. Being first doesn't matter if it's a new shit post that won't get any attention.

And the long old posts are only a good option if they are evergreen. Why is it bad to be at the end. Most forum view patterns for information are look at the first posts to see what's up then check the last to see what the most recent opinions are.

This is not a binary question so the answer is you have to do both. Do 50/50 see what works better for your niche and change the ratio over time depending on what converts better.
