joomla has its own features but its not so much friendly with SEO you need to implement few tricks.. similarly wordpress has the prob of security.. if u wish to continue with joomla then go ahead.. but have extensive reading about it before starting.
joomla very profesional for bussiness, but not for communiti (in my opinion)
i thinks vbulletin forum is best
or you can also use wordpress for forums with plugin (search in google)
I was going to use it myself, but the themes are not complete like WordPress - you get a template where you manually add your graphics, etc. - if you can live with that, then check it out
You want to avoid a forum at all costs as the CTR is less than 1%. You want to build a really juicy site and use social plugins as your discussion board

Go for Drupal , joking , I d rather go with Wordpress if you have no experience with Joomla, it s a bit more difficult to handle, add some security plug in to your wordpress like secure_wp or something like that .
I built a professional healthcare community using Joomla - with the Jomsocial extension. Joomla also has the Community Builder ext. - I tried both and went with Jomsocial. WP has Buddypress, which is pretty good. I just switched my community from Joomla to WP using Buddypress. All the bells and whistles that I paid for on the Joomla site - nobody in the community used them. They just wanted the basics - messaging, forums, connections, and the ability to post.
I had heard that Joomla wasn't SEO friendly - but I didn't have any issues...with 1800 pages ranked and 2500 members visiting a few times a month my ranking for any keywords in my articles was usually in the top 10. But I was very niche and had the whole industry on a mailing list
The plugins for Wordpress are more extensive and cheaper - most are free - whereas many of the good Joomla extensions can get pricey.
Thank you friends for all your sugestion. I started community site using wordpress+buddypress . Still its in development phase. Will update once its done
