i dont think it is so much the theme, but the plugins that you use

at minimum you need a plugin like yoast for seo work
you need a speed plugin like wp-rocket
you need an image optimization plugin like imagifiy
you need a theme that is very light and fast by itself. google this, you will see lots of write ups on which theme are very fast for seo purposes
 
Schema theme from MyThemeShop + Rankmath seo plugin is the best ever combination. Schema is the lightest theme and Rankmath provides many premium features for free.

The best is subjective. There's no theme that can give you an SEO advantage over the others, since it's a combination of factors. But site speed is a factor in SEO and there are themes that are lightweight and fast. Based on my experience these are the fastest:

- Carbonate
- GeneratePress
- Acabado
- Jannah
- Cheerup
 
There are many themes suitable for SEO.

All you have to do is look for crucial SEO elements to be in place.
  • code should be clean and it should load fast
  • logo should be <div>, <span> or <img> NOT <h1>
  • page/post title should be <h1>
  • schema should be 'website' by default
  • header, main content area, sidebar and footer should be clearly separated <div>s
 
My suggestion is Astra and oceanWP...becoz it's free, more customised option and look like premium features...so these are suitable to WordPress theme for blog...
 
Consider looking at competitors of yours that are ranking well, and running this on them. You'll discover some themes that way.

What are your thoughs on astra, generatepress or studiopress themes? Also the reco theme is really fast and newspaper theme very visual
 
"Publisher" from "BetterStudio" is also a good choice for serious blogger or online magazine editor
 
Themify - it is free and the best. You can do whatever you want.
