So i have just started building sites for clients which includes ecommerce sites built on woocommerce and opencart. Currently I am using shared hosting from hostgator India because these clients have customers from India.

I have told my clients that as traffic grows they will be required to purchase bigger hosting as I am using a shared server which they are okay about.

Is it okay to host several ecommerce sites on my shared server. I currently have 5 to 6 sites and we are fast growing.

What about other small web development companies. What kind of servers do they use. Do they use shared hosting or a dedicated server or they buy a different hosting account for each client.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hostgator shared hosting? They are crap. Since your website is ecommerce i recommends VPS. Host your site on a good vps, that will give complete control.

Yes, jamsolo is right!

Since you are beginning, it is better to go for good VPS to be remain safe as well as getting more advantage.

All the Best.

I would suggest to take a look at HostForLIFE.eu. They optimized their infrastucture to work well with ecommerce. I'm using it for a very long time now I never had an issue for my studies, testing and for my clients who can't afford to pay for the hosting.

Dedicated is the best option for you I think and absolutely offshore seo vps for you as they have cheap and great plans. I'm using a long time without any big issues. They have a magnificent online support too. Have a look :)

As you have mentioned that your clients have e-commerce sites. Hence I suggest you to always go for VPS or dedicated server. The selection between the two totally depends on your clients requirement and if they are ready to spend more bucks then dedicated server is the best option. Apart from this for the e-commerce sites the performance of the server is really important. Hence I suggest you always look for the server uptime record of the hosting provider and below 99% is not acceptable. And it would be great if they provide you 24X7 support as well.

A shared web hosting service is a web hosting service where many websites reside on one web server connected to the Internet. Each site "sits" on its own partition, or section/place on the server, to keep it separate from other sites. Most Web hosting companies provide shared hosting.

All hosting accounts are on the same IP.

BVWebhost is a web hosting company that offers more security, reliablity, low cost hosting and faster online services worldwide. We offer the best services with low prices.
Features:
1. Unlimited Domains
2. Unlimited Websites
3. Unlimited Business Emails
4. Unlimited databases
5. Free CDN
6. Free Website Builder
7. One click installer

All features are for $35 per year.

Stay away from Hostgator.
They used to be good but now they are complete shit.
I recommend mddhosting or siteground.

You should go for a Reseller hosting instead of shared hosting as you will be offer a separate control panel to your clients and you can profit out of it too. Many developers sign up for Reseller Hosting Plans and some order individual shared hosting plans. I have seen big development companies using dedicated server and VPS for selling hosting plans to their clients.
