Which hosting company is best?

I agree, you get what you pay for. I am totally off this unlimited hosting crap. HostGator is the only one that seems to pull it off decently, but even they are starting to get slack and their servers have been lagging a lot lately (at least to me).

I have been with hostgator several years. Reseller plan right now, but I have had trouble with getting my auto blog shut down there. My other Wordpress sites seem to be fine with hostgator however.

I have moved all my money sites from the "unlimited hosts" and have moved them to some of the less known, better quality hosts and my main cash sites are on vps accounts. I still use sites like HostGator for link properties, but that is about it.

i recommend arvixe! unlimited hosting for 4$/month with a free domain for life. and their support is pretty awsome, they're allways online!

Be careful with Hostgator. If you have a high traffic site using Wordpress on one of their unlimited plans, they have been known to disable your site for using up too many system resources on the server. This happened to me several times and cost me a lot of money while I looked for a suitable VPS for my high traffic Wordpress sites.

I'm with hostgator right now on a shared plan but I have like 30 sites on my account alone and my sites have been slow as shit lately... I dunno if it's my fault or hostgators but my avg. load time according to google is like 5 seconds.. and I just started noticing it pretty bad after updating all my sites to WP 3.1

Is a VPS like the next step between a shared plan and a dedicated server?

I have been customer of Godaddy since last couple of years and they are providing excellent support services.

i think hostgator (unlimited with great prices) or hawkhost (nice price and comparable features)

For my past 5 website that i runned, i bought a domain name from site's like namecheap[dot]com and the hosting from hostgator. Their support is incredible and they can help you in every way possible. I highly recommend them. I never had a 404 error code because of them, ever and the servers never crashed, even if i had some days with hordes of traffic.

All the best.

You honestly can not go wrong with Hostgator they are the most popular and have fair prices. Plus their customer service is prime, you can't go wrong with that. Never had a problem with their hosting.

only problem you face with them is when you get too much traffic in which case they disable your account.
