True. But continuing to judge a country on the actions of dictatorial government that was overthrown over a decade ago also isn't a real comparison. It's just being close minded. Which is fine if that's what you want to be but then you should also realize that your opinion is not valuable because it's not current. Making a lasting decision based on experiences during an extreme situation isn't generally a good idea.

Let's do a more apples to apples comparison. You've been to Korea and SE Asia. Would you suggest that people avoid them? If not, why not? They were both countries/regions at war where various atrocities were committed.

If your position is that people shouldn't visit countries that have a dirty political/military history then I assume you tell people to avoid the US right? Because the genocide committed here is just as real as the one in the Balkans - it just happened longer ago.

Or is there a time limit when genocide, rape and other war time atrocities no longer matter? If not, how can you go anywhere because virtually every country on the planet has been involved in one conflict or another in which people were brutally abused and killed.

Or, perhaps countries CAN change and therefore travel to the US, Korea, SE Asia and other countries is ok in your opinion because you didn't witness it?

Don't get me wrong, you're allowed your opinions, I'm just trying to understand your reasoning because it seems that some countries that commit atrocities are ok but others aren't...

i don't think it's a good idea at least atm, you don't want to live long term in a small island where are two contender parts divided by a narrow line controlled by the UN, maybe after they join and the UN marched out

Out of the things you picked I'd say South France. Nice weather and easy to adjust to as an immigrant. Only barrier might be the language, but if you actually go out and try to talk with people you'll pick it up very fast. You'll also enjoy the benfits of Europe (yes, there are some) and I like the houses there, not that expensive and you can live close to a beach if you want.
 
How isolated do u want to be from major city...other countries?
e.g., What countries do u want to get to visit in a short time frame [under three hours flight]? Or do u like access to rail travel vs auto required?
All while living on the oceanfront.... do u want to own or rent?
Do u want waves [for surfing etc.?] or calm or consistent wind for other watersport?
Does tax status matter with ur IM?
Do u like a change of seasons where it MIGHT get down to freezing a week or two out of the year? Or prefer tropical year-round?

Just some of the long-term factors I would consider. Be interesting to know what u give more weight to...and what ur eventual choice is.
 
I think no one here has mentioned the good old US. I'd say the West Coast would meet your needs... San Diego is know for having "Perfect" weather all year round. The issues would be:
1. Getting allowed in the country.
2. 500K won't take you too far in California.
 
Before even considering emigrating somewhere (and checking how legally viable it is to actaully reside there) you need to spend some time in the country first. Other wise you can hate it after 6 months or so.

I spent a year in Oz, but dont think i would like to live there for ever. Currently living and working in Thailand, and as mentioned before its always going to be harder to assimilate into such a distant and foreign land. Far from impossible though as the Poster made out.

Miss England though.

there's a list of countries to visit / stay mentioned on his book.
very good recommendation, i might use one day.

Ha!, Good luck with that.
Maybe you could around 5-10 years ago, these days you'd be hard pressed to find any decent sized house for that price. Perth went from the 2nd cheapest in the country to more expensive than Sydney.

Every man and his dog came over here for the goldrush, now EVERYTHING is overpriced.

I'd probably go to one of the south Pacific islands while they're still around.
 
with 200-500k USD you can buy yourself a hotel in South East Asia with 9-40 rooms with swimming pool, restaurant and travel service.
The weather is hot and there are plenty of rich people, but also poor.
Which you can use for your advantage to make life easier.

Indonesia or Thailand still are the best places in my opinion but there is also Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam or Malaysia
 
THAILAND .... Ive lived here 12 yrs, got a 3 bed house, 10x4m swimming pool and a 10 foot cicular jaccuzzi in my bedroom, not from black hat mind u lol. i got it from hard work in the uk.
but it cost me $120k usd. and i live on $1.5k a month , which inc. all my bills, all my food, a double fridge full of beer, a bi sexual wife, lol. pool parties every weekend and alot of uk males here , lol i see more of my home town mates here , then i do when i go to uk once a yr.
CANT BEAT THAILAND, land of smiles , replica goods, cheap labour for ur cpa mass hits, lol i got 10 girls who work for me, i pay then $1,500 a month ( $150 a month each by the way ) which is the going rate, and we have staff meeting at weekends , bikinis only meetings.

BEAT that lol
