which country to move to?

Let's say you got yourself 500k usd.

Myself, im living in a shithole of a country (east europe) - 4 months of harsh winter, pessimistic ppl, etc.

I can't stand the cold, I think people are supposed to live in warmth.



What is your dream country to live in? Personally I dont want to live in a poor country.

my choices are: south france, south japan(okinawa), south ireland, new zealand.

please elaborate on your choices.

Spain was great 3/4 years ago.....but forget it now...

1 in 4 unemployed.....housing and building industry collapsed......tourism way down....increased taxes.....price of basic foodstuffs gone through the roof....

Had my house in Spain broken into whilst I was away.....they left all the valuable stuff....including video camera....but emptied the freezer of all the food......

Basically honest people....forced into stealing food to feed their families....all because of greedy bankers.........

You can walk over the border into Spain if you wish....low taxes....free healthcare.....centre of europe's online gambling industry so plenty of IT jobs.....

Just one small problem....the smallest of homes costs well of $1,000,000....

there is no such thing as a poor country.. you have rich areas and poverty areas in all countries. you will be shocked to know that most of Ethiopia is green and very fertile but the news always shows starving and poor people in Ethiopia.
for me it boils down to a few things like

1. what colour are you because most people anywhere outside a westren city centre are less tolerant of people of colour like germany, UK , France etc.

2. do you like scorching heat or a nice cool climate with mild winters.

for me i would live in Jamaica as that is where most of my family is from. but if you run out of money there ...God help you

Try Cebu, Philippines. Cebu ranked 4th best island destination in Asia in 2009. It has 2.4 million tourist arrivals last year. White beaches, World Class Hotels, we even have 7th star hotel here, A lot of diving spots and tourist attraction. A lot of shopping malls, Night lifes, alot of disco bar here, Low crime rates, very friendly people. A lots of restaurant here specializing different cousines, italian, korean, american, spanish, japanese many to mention. The beaches, mountains, shopping malls, bars are all 15 minutes from the airport. English is our Second language here, the magasines, tv, signs are mostly in english. You can ask everyone here because they can understand you.

You can even start your business here. We have an area here thats has tax exemption,for Foreign business that can generate dollars and jobs. A lots of IT proffesional here. Cebu has a very low cost of living.

i live in ukraine, born in poland, 23 yo.

I speak perfect russian, polish, english, basics of german and japanese(I love jap culture, but I think it's hard there for an immigrant)

I dint have any degree because i don't dig school, but I consider doing an interesting BA in a country i move to.

I fucking hate the cold weather. I can't live and work in winter I just sleep it all, depression and stuff.

I know you may say, theres no poor countries, but in my country when you go to the rural areas just to chill out, ppl are so poor that there's a high% of being mugged.

Southern France would be the best out of what you wrote or New Zealand, but it's not too warm

i also recommend you Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia Hercegovina

if you live in Europe, you shouldn't move to an Asian/African/Caribbean/Latin American country, why? it's ok to go to a holiday to this places, but as an European you just can't fit in, totally different culture

Germany, there you can be sure that there will not be poorness, but the weather isn't so great. So maybe move to france, but the language is hard

* Excellent weather/ fairly cheap/ good economy not in recession..
people speak english/ great beaches/ good food and lots of nature...
Also lots of people have immigrated to australia and its a friendly, welcoming country.



I would say Perth western australia would be a good choice ..or maybe Brisbane...with 500K maybe you could buy a house..or a cafe! and invest the rest.

The problem with Spain is the issue with who owns the house you live in. Theres man programs on tv that show you people's houses being demolished even though they have paid loads of money because the council have said they don't own it.
