When asked: ´What do you do?´ What do you say?

Just internet marking or sometimes: Im just a lucky gambler ...

I dont understand why some guys of you tell others they are learining foreign languages etc ,

The best thing is to spererate the whole internet (esspecially blackhat) thing from your daily life.

Avoids envy and problems after my experience ...

whenever you say internet marketing ppl look at you like you're an idiot.... like wtf is that?

then you gotta explain shit to them... and they still dont 'get it'....

so... i just tell ppl i'm a drug dealer (we sell weight loss supplements), its just easier for them to understand. :-)

I say internet marketing, if you're interested google it. Or just - Im a student - when I dont feel like explaining.

I just say i am a coder.
This satisfies their curiosity as why i spent so much time on my computer.
Funny thing my GF who never sees me in front of 'code' (she know a little about it) never had any doubt ;)

I usually just say I build websites. There's obviously way more to what I do than that, but it normally doesn't warrant further questions like what happened when I used to tell people I did internet marketing.

Everyone knows what a website is already, so there's not much to explain.

I say, I run a Search Engine Marketing, and Development company. then they shut up... lol

I just say I handle/work on my business, and that I'm making more than the doctors and teachers in this town LEGALLY. Then they just say "oh, sorry for bothering you" and walk away.

I mostly do 2d and 3d animations and some post (visual fx) as my main, "real life" job, but I've been slowly applying what I learn here to my web development passion, and I plan to use my skills to quit driving customers to third parties and use them for my own profit. I don't think I need to explain much at this point, my family and friends say I do "tv commercials" and that's fine by me. If only I got to pocket a tenth of what my employers do...

I would like to tell you but I think you need to pay me $37.

... I work in a bunch of different areas, like cpa networks, adsense, ad networks, seo etc... just would like to have an answer for when someone asks what I do!
Those are all various affiliate marketing methods.

So In that case I'd just tell them...
"I'm in Internet Marketing", "I'm an Internet Marketing Professional", or even "I'm an Internet Marketer."

If they ask what that is, then just say...
"I'm involved with Advertising and Sales on the Internet"

If they press further then tell them...
"Internet Marketing is like an advertising agency that uses websites and other web platforms to sell products for other companies. My websites serve the same function as independent sales agents in offline businesses, and I make commissions on any sales they make."

If that still isn't enough just say...
"Man, that's really more information than I can just quickly explain. It took me months(years or whatever) to learn my profession. If you really want to know more then you'll have to actually start learning the business yourself."

Then if you feel like it you can either just end it there, offer some things to search for on Google and maybe suggest a few good websites and forums, or even offer to help teach them (for a fee of course, lol) if you're up for that.

Now if you were making money by ewhoring then I'm not sure how you would explain that. :cool2:
In that case it might be best to just stick with the IM answer anyway. LOL

:call2:

Normally I tell people I'm a rubbish collector and wait to see what their reaction is.

I say I have my own online business on advertising.

I find that saying I build websites is the easiest, unless it's a business owner in which case I'm an online advertising specialist/consultant. I am seriously considering switching over to "I sell 1s and 0s through copper wire", though.
