I used to do a lot of comment backlinking using scrapebox mostly for tier 2 links or to strengthen the backlink profile of new sites.

What software tools are commonly used in SEO these days? Do you find them effective?

Scrapebox is still around for certain tasks, but many now lean on tools like GSA SER, XRumer, or automated indexers for volume work. Others use AHrefs or Semrush alongside black hat tools to balance strategy. Effectiveness depends on how carefully you mix automation with safe practices.

AI tools are highly effective in black hat SEO. Many people are using AI for content, data analysis, and automation of processes like link building.

Scrapebox is gone, not working as it did in the past years. GSA is still working well, but its Verified links ratio is decreasing daily. For Web 2.0 or Tier 2 links, RankerX and Money Robot both work well if you take their links' indexation seriously.

Scrapebox is still around but most people use it for scraping and harvesting now instead of just comment blasts. GSA SER is another one that’s still used for tiered links, though it needs good lists and proxies to be effective. A lot of people also combine automation tools with indexers and traffic bots to speed things up. Effectiveness really depends on how you use them and mixing them with safer methods like web 2.0s or manual outreach.

Nowadays most SEO pros use Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, and Screaming Frog for research, audits, and tracking. For backlinks, outreach tools and guest posting networks are more effective than automated spam tools. They give better results and are safer long-term

Scrapebox definitely not working! Both link harvesting feature + proxy harvesting.

I used to mess with Scrapebox for tier 2 links too, but nowadays I mostly stick with Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog for analysis, and BuzzStream or Terkel for outreach/PR type stuff. From my experience those old comment links barely do anything now. The stuff that really helps is finding relevant opportunities, tracking what works, and understanding search intent. Are you still mostly doing link building or more on content/on-page now?

Most of the old tools people used heavily aren’t as effective anymore. Stuff like automated comment or blast tools gets caught pretty fast now. These days, people mostly use general SEO tools for research and monitoring, and any risky tools are used very carefully and in small doses. Overall, relying too much on software alone doesn’t work like it used to - manual work and cleaner methods seem to last longer.
