What is the most effective link building method?

Hi, I am a beginner in link building, I am looking for the most effective link building methods, because I have heard that many link building methods are no longer as effective, please guide those who have experience.

You may want to keep you link profile as much natural as possible, so for new website you can start with a mix of different links (outreach to niche-related website in order to get/pay for a link in content), guest posts, authoritative directories which are not spammed to death, social bookmarking sites, web 2.0, parasite links. Also, at the beginning, focus more on links to the home page using branded anchor texts (your brand name, brand name + keyword, naked url, variation with/wthout https/www, etc.). Then, once your link profile begins to be stronger, build links to inner pages and home page using SEO anchor text (your keywords).
 
You asked for cost-effective, so I'm going to argument around this point of view.

I find forum posting to be the most cost-effective type you can buy at this moment. You have unique referring domains, the backlink is in a context-related topic ( or it should be at least ) and they don't cost an arm and a leg. There is a recent journey with someone buying only those types and was making a killing in organic traffic.

Guest posting is better but it's not so cost-effective ( my personal opinion ). I've seen forum posts going for 9$ a link, and if you think about its lifetime and the possibility of getting click traffic too, it's a win-win.
 
Guest post and PBN are most effective. But if you want to diversify your backlink profile then go for web2.0, article submission, social bookmarks, profiles, etc.

Although I do use Guest Posting and Niche Edits with Forum Posts for my own projects, I know a few people who only use Forum Posts these days and are getting some solid income. I usually use @denchiro for my forum posts but there's a few other people who offer them on the forum too.

You can get pretty cheap guest posts from @Finn too if you have a higher budget you can go with @MisterF. I have used both services and both have provided solid links.

@Alexion do you have a link for the journey thread? I would be interested in checking it out.

Guest blogging is the best.
 
I do not understand why most people recommends quest posts.
Explain me why are they valuable for SEO :)

In my opinion, if you get link from some domain inner page (in this case - quest post) - it is useless for SEO, unless:

1. That inner page has backlinks from other sites and can transfer link juice to your link.
2. That inner page has link from domain's root and that way has some link juice to transfer to your link.

In 99,99% quest posts you will not get these two above.
