As the Title says...

please can someone explain the difference between guest posting and back links in a simple way so i can understand?

Guest posting is a way of getting backlinks.

You write an article with your link/brand mentioned in it for another website. That is why it's called guest posting.

Actually it is the same.. guest posting is just a one of many backlink building strategies

Well as it very much clear itself that a guest post is to post an article to a website related to your niche and to get a link from that site or get your brand promoted but in case of backlinks you get a link back from the site you choose in form of any thing like social bookmarking ping submission or many more ways.

we can have backlinks from many ways like social bookmarking, ping submissions, forum submissions, questions answer submission, profile creation, image sharing, article sharing, business listing and many other ways. if you still have any doubt so i can tell you more at call.

Guest posting is a "method" to obtain back links from other websites in your niche.

You write content for other websites > they publish it on their website mentioning your website > you get link-juice from that link(backlink)

There are other ways to obtain back links other than guest posting.

There are tons of ways to get backlinks - broken links / skyscraper / profiles / scholarship pages / guest posts... etc

guest posts is just one SMALL sub-set of the many different backlink types and sources out there

thank you Mr. blackbeans for the perfect answer.

Be careful buying guest posts.

Some are just PBNs filled with outbound links to other people's sites.

Should have traffic and not every post linking out

then how do you suggest i get more traffic?

Guest posting is way for getting backlinks to your site. But it could also be done without any links and just for informative purpose. Especially if you love writing for any top blogs on your similar niche..

Guest blogging refers to submitting a blog post that is featured on another blog besides your own. Many blogs accept guest posts to help fill their calendars so they don’t have to produce new content all of the time. It helps you get access to a new audience since the publication will promote your content to their readers.

While, backlinks are any link in or on a website page that points (or “links”) back to your website/page. Backlinks are commonly referred to as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, or inward links.

then how do you suggest i get more traffic?
Contribute content to your niche related site that has good traffic and backling it to your site. This will redirect a lot of traffic to you site.

But only if he posts on popular blogs which is expensive. He should keep that in mind

Link Building can be divided into 2 Ways!

1- Submission Links - Any link that is placed by you, doesn't need any approval or edit from the blog/site owner is a submission link. Example- Web 2.0 , Article submission, Social bookmark, Blog comment (auto approval), pdf submissions, press release submission (until a real journalist write about your blog) , PBN blogs etc etc.....

2- Outreached / Editorially Placed Link (Any link that required permission / edits of blog owner).

A- When you reach out to another blogger to place a link in his/her blog post to your article. It can be a real guest post, link placed within existing content etc.
It can be paid , free or for an exchange of something. You keep it secret. Google don't know about it.

B - When your article is out of the universe and so good to read. Other bloggers will give voluntary reference within their article. This is complete white hat link.

-----------------------------

Now get back to your question :-

A real guest posting site - Allows other bloggers to publish/contribute a content on his site, in return they get a link. May be in author bio box or in article. This is completely fine. Don't get too much worried about it.

A PBN Site - It's sole purpose is to place an out link in every article, doesn't matter where it is linking, the quality of target site etc.

Not all PBN are bad actually. 70% Affiliate sites are surviving over PBN links. If it is built on good quality and kept safe. It's like a gold mine.

Guest Posting is great source to promote your website services with the help of high PR blogs of same niche. all you need to do is contact blog owner and ask to publish your content on his blog and get relevant backlinks from the blog.
Backlink is a link one website gets from another website. Backlinks make a huge impact on a website's prominence in search engine results.
