A while back my partners and I were approached by someone claiming that we should disavow old directory links we had from way back in the day. This kind of made sense and these links were very spammy looking. I was against it but we setup a disavow file and disavowed spammy looking directory sites. Our traffic tanked and I had to update the disavow file and remove the directories. Months later and thousands of dollars worth of new links, and the traffic came back.

So let this be a lesson to be very careful with disavow files. Just because a site looks spammy or some tool tells you it's spammy, doesn't mean Google thinks it's spammy.

If your site has higher spam score, it doesn't mean that your site is spammy as you think. It's just a sign of awareness to investigate the quality and relevancy of your site.
