What is Panda after?

Huge movement in the serps in the past 12hrs. Many of my sites fell but only a few spots. But the drop is very apparent. They continue to fuck with everyone. Its a never ending story with these MFers.

So it seems, my sites just got hit.

One site has dropped out of the top 100 for all keywords, for no reason :S

Another site which has some pretty solid content was ranking #1 in the US, has been for the past month, is now ranking 7th :/

Interestingly enough, what has overtaken it? A site with crap irrelevant content, and a handful of you tube videos.

I'm really pissed off, I try my hardest to write good content, build quality links, and I get rewarded by being outranked by shit content and spam backlinks?

Unless I'm mistaken, it's still technically blackhat when you create backlinks on your own. Anyway, as long as the backlinks appear natural to google, you should be OK.

Cheers,
ytterium

I mentioned whitehat because all web2.0 creation was done manually with original content that had not spun or duplicate

From the looks of it everyone is affected. As for me i have been ranking for 2500 long tail keywords(around 2-4 words) on 1st and second pages of Google. To be more specific i have a site that covers all niches(broad article directory using adsense), we write our own articles, Xsitepro user and have around 250 unique article pages. Yes only 250 articles for 2500 keywords. I use a method called Micro niche page, so i can rank for at least 100 long tails for 1 article.
Anyways mostly of my keywords are affected, except for around 20% that stayed and some 10% ranked higher(10-30 spots)! Clearly I will lose traffic and hope it will be back soon. But if things wouldn't revert at least i have the stable keywords and the keywords that ranked higher. I'm beginning to see a pattern with those that increased in rankings, this would sound odd but seeing the results I ranked more on keywords that I didn't originally targeted(keyword was only mentioned for 1-2 times in the page).

It fucking sucks when you put out good content and try and provide a good user experience and generally provide Google with what they want and then this happens.. again.. and again..

So it seems that QUALITY is defined as feedback per google polls, bounce rate, time on site, etc. Boring, lackluster, spun content will be penalized through a natural selection arrangement.

The real question in my mind is how does duplicate content that provides all of the engaging quality content that google WANTS and NEEDS weigh in for ranking your site? Surely if you copied over quality content people would stay on your site longer, click more links and provide your site with a "Better" analytic profile.

Panda 2.6 hit 13 October 2011 and it's not over yet.

What's funny is that it hit pretty fast (2 weeks) after Panda 2.5 (28 September). What is Google after? Here are my observations. Those that have been hit let's make a huge list of observations:

1. I have the idea Google is after grammar and spelling nowadays. But I'm not sure, it can't be it. How many of you have poor websites, with poor grammar that haven't been hit?
2. Panda IS NOT AFTER DUPLICATE CONTENT. Lots of autoblogs and websites that copy content RANK.
3. PANDA 2.6 is about BRANDING. EMD rank!
4. GOOD content doesn't equal unique content and good spelling. If you don't answer your reader and give him a solution, you don't have good content.
5. MASSIVE BACKLINKS WORKS! Still work.
6. I'm pretty sure Google hits websites that have a certain number of words per page (400-500-600?). Thin content doesn't mean 200-300 words, but content that's like a doorway, just for money.
7. BLOGSPOT is considered an EMD now.
8. Blogroll WORK!
9. SOCIAL matters right now. The more social likes and comments you have, the more money you can make.
10. Adsense sites don't get affected. There are tons of EMD's in the serps right now, full of Adsense. Bounce rate doesn't matter.
11. I add content every day, so it doesn't really matter.

Add more.

Someone needs to step in and audit google and report results. In essence they are allowing the customers who pay the most for advo (the big guys) and their own properties to rise in the rankings and drop the rest.

Perhaps some senate committee can look into this, not that they cant be bought anyway.

This is definitely the case... YouTube and blogspot are reigning supreme right now.

I just checked my main site that got thrown down to 386 for my best keyword. I moved up to 172. It's progress.

This is a strange one. Like many of you guys, I track hundreds of words across many sites. Some are just pure test sites. I don't see a clear pattern to what just happened.

On a page that's 3 primary keywords are like: blue widgets, red widgets, green widgets

All ranked #3 yesterday. Today 2 stayed the same and 1 went back about 40 places.

I also noticed this new 'panda' but my results aren't nearly as bad. Mind you, last 2 days I thought all of my sites were deindexed/penalized/etc but that was more so due to a broken rank tracker in Market Samurai (which has been fixed - it seems).

A few of my EMD's have been moving up steadily with no fluctuation at all, despite nuking it/amr'ing them daily. A few of my sites have been hit, it seems (which is sad, as they were the ones making me money (small amounts, like $2-4/day each) - but no matter, I will just build them up again).

It's like climbing a mountain.. And just when the peak is in sight you lose your footing and slide back down to the halfway point again...

Really fucking annoying because now I've got no incentive to continue with my daily link building routine..

I feel just like you, but what I'm going to do instead of my link building routine, is spending 80% of my time on improving my site's value and appeal to visitors. Honesting my site got affected because it should have. It doesn't really help visitors all that much. My bounce rate is really high as a result. So SEO I think has now become "site improving" more than "link building"

my website was ranking top 5 after i worked hard for 15-20 days, in the morning my main keyword dropped, now all keywords dropped, i m lost :(

I have an EMD with 20M+ searches per month that has been registered since 1994 and I have been all over the place... page 1 then page 15 then page 10 and right now page 26 wtf?! Seems the more SEO work I do (white or black) to get better rank only seems to hurt... I am at a loss right now and have decided to just chill for a couple weeks and see what happens...

Google is love hate relationship ;)

Cheers Mates!

Make your website more user friendly and helpful

I wonder if Google does this just to fish out the IMers. If you stop building links to your sites now it is obvious why, right? If you do a major site overhaul it is obvious why. Likewise if you continue adding content at the same pace and building links at the same pace Google will have to conclude that your links are coming to you naturally and are not there to inflate the SERPs. This is the first panda where I have been hit but it is something that's been going through my mind all morning.

I think we should all just sit back and wait for a couple of days/weeks. I'll continue to add content and build links to my sites and I think they will be back to normal when this update is finished.

9. But how do we get social likes? We make a facebook page with our domain name as website in the profile section? We put comments on that page? What social activities exactly produce the best results?

10. What makes you say bounce rate doesn't matter? How do you know this? You think a site with a bounce rate of 90% is going to be liked by google as much as one with 30%?

11. You add content every day so it doesn't matter? To who, you? What about those of us who don't add content every day and are getting affected by that. Doesn't that matter to us? Does it matter to google?

I am following this valuable discussion. After yesterdays update, I still don't see a clear pattern. Most of my EMDs continued to rank as before but some 10% of my EMDs suffered as they received a sitewide penalty. Most of my bigger sites with lots of original content lost their rank sitewide, so I am losing motivation to write more content for these sites. It looks like Google engineers are themselves not clear .. so they are rolling back the updates and applying patches again in short time.
