What is my .net domain worth?

I registered a new .net domain (no backlinks) for a new project about 1 month ago. It's a catchy name that's brandable and also has keywords (590 exact monthly searches, many more broad variations). The .com and .org are taken.

I've been building up the site on a test server so the domain just has a parking page on it. I got a random message from someone offering me $150 and I said the amount was too low. They now want to know how much I want for it.

What do you think I can ask for? I have a suspicion this is the same person who has just bought the .com (through auction or broker) and might be looking to safeguard the .net too. I know that if I build a site on the domain it will be a good earner, but I haven't invested too much into it yet. Should I just give a big figure and see what they say?

Does anyone have any sales data for recently sold .net domains?

If you get one tenth of what .com domain is sold, then it's a good deal from my perspective.

Thanks, namebio has some useful data and also recorded how much the .com variant sold for.

Good idea - the .com went for $1500 at auction so $150 is probably a reasonable offer.

I wouldn't sell it for less than $500 except you don't have a plan for the domain especially since he contacted out of the blue. I would assume he would want it badly. If he rejects your offer, then move on with your plan.

Thanks, that's a good point. I will counter with $500 and see what happens.
