What is Keyword cannibalization and How can we protect our keywords rankings from it.

If you write several articles for same keyword, then you have less chances of ranking for it as all your pages compete for rank. You should write a single cornerstone article that is descriptive. Write several other articles with medium-tail or long-tail variations of keyword and add a link of cornerstone article in all of them. So, they all pass link juice to it and help it rank.

For example:
Cornerstone article - SEO
MT/LT 1 - SEO marketing
MT/LT 2 - SEO optimization
MT/LT 3 - SEO keyword research
MT/LT 4 - SEO linkbuilding

Basically, different pages rank for the same term and one page outranks your main page your trying to rank a keyword for.

Using search console you can see the average position for all the keywords your website and individual pages are ranking for.

Essentially you need to devalue the page that is the canibal or improve the page you are trying to rank for. Both ideally. Build internal and external links.

More than one post target the same kw. If the problem happens, of course you should leave only one post targeting that kw. You can merge multiple posts into one. You can delete or deindex other posts. Or you can optimize other posts to target different kws.
