Self hosted? Unless you own the registrar, and the webhost, you're still on "their" platform, subject to their rules and limitations. So if you don't care about the "their" issue:

For simplicity, Blogspot. For versatility, Wordpress. For many now, for better overall reach and content distribution, Substack.
