I have seen many articles claiming that it is good to have a keyword density of 3 to 4 percent and then some claiming it doesn't matter much and that some sites rank with none of the keywords they rank for on the page. I don't like to stuff keywords in my posts because i use long tail keywords and they don't sound natural in the posts. What keyword density gives me the best chance to rank? thanks in advance.

i use the yoast plugin, it tells you the kw density so you can adjust as you go, so much easier than all the confusing so called advice. I agree that one says one thing and another says something else

A page with 1,000 words, and a keyword density rate of 6% could be considered good in the eye of google.

Simply instal the yoast SEO. It will give you the answer. Keyword density should be below 2 for 500 words page. Maximum 4 is fine for 1000 words.

I keep it low and usually rank just fine. I usually stick with around 0.2 or 0.3 percent. Yup that low and rank for many keywords.

Are you saying that a keyword to appear 60 times in a 1000 word post is good in the eyes of Google?

    Did you mean 0.6%?

Max is 1%. 2% or 3% is VERY high and may occur some algorithm penalization.

You just need the exact keyword in URL/domain, H1/h2 and 1 paragraph, then use synonyms/related keywords.

Depends also if it's a 1,2 or 3 word keyword. This guide by phpbuilt is incredibly helpful. I also recommend the "Wordstat" plugin in combination with Yoast.

I use 1.5% - 2% per 1k to 1.5k words and ranks just fine but as they said, yoast is a really good plugin.

The keyword density between 0.5% to 2.5%.
Install Yoast SEO 3.0. You can check your keyword density using this plugin.

First of all, I like natural post. But, even if I have to add keywords, then I would prefer it be 0.5% to 1% max.

Yes, that is a better figure.

There are also other factors which bump up the keyword density too such as the words in the main navigation menu, sidebar links, footer links, categories, tags and related article widgets.

OP: Go into Google, find the top 10-20 for your major keywords and calculate their density. Find the sites that are most similar to yours and average out what they are doing. Let that be your starting spot.

Keyword stuffing is allowed for if the article is naturally fit with more keywords, it does not matter for google and not an offense one.

Best and Safe Keyword Density Calculation
    [IMG]
    safe-keyword-density
Example: Consider the Web page has 100 total words and the Keyword chosen is

    Google

Let Assume the word “Google” present 2 times on the html document. So, the Optimal Word Density calculated from below formula,

    (Keyword presence / total words) * 100

This ishttp://forlearning.com/keyword-density-formula-calculation-for-google-seo-6/ keyword having single word value. So right now the density is (2 / 100) * 100 = 2%

Best and Optimal Keyword Density for single word: 2% to 4%

Now Consider the Keyword is three words that is Key Phrase

    Google Keyword Density

So the formula is different and also it’s used as a generic formula for both if it’s a single word or Key Phrase.

(Keyword presence / total words) * 100 * Key Phrase word count

    It’s a three word so the Key Phrase word count is 3. Let assume the Key Phrase present 2 time soKeyword Density is (2 / 100) * 100 * 3 = 6%

Due to Keyword Stuffing the Keyword ratio is checked more deeply. The Phrase is having 3 words Consider the 3 Words are Presence and Density ratio as follows,

    1. Google – 4 times – 4%
    2. Keyword – 2 times – 2%
    3. Density – 3 times – 3%
All above split word ratio is in Optimal Density range because already we have seemed about theGood single word density. Key Phrase is Higher Value than the range of 2% to 4% so this is considered as http://forlearning.com/stuffing only so place the entire Phrase also in Best ratio.

Best and Optimal Density for Key Phrases: Key Phrase and all split words are 2% to 4%

We usually shoot for 3-5% keyword density of specific long tail keyword phrases we want to rank for. Shoot some backlinks out and watch them rise. I personally haven't tried anything less so I cannot say if it's more effective, however it works. Be sure you have other on page seo as well. Your <h1> phrase</h1> is helpful in allowing google to know what you want to rank for. 1000+ words per page is also helpful in allowing google to analyze best. Don't forget your meta data, title, keywords, description. Something helpful in quickly checking a lot of stats is the following http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword-density/
