I usually just ask if they have ever used the internet. If they indicate that they have i say that I own the (dot) in (dot)com and whenever someone uses the (dot) I collect royalties. Most people laugh but one guy actually believed me (a tourist from ukraine) he paid $10 for my autograph *shrug*
Sometimes I think about that guy sitting at his kitchen table in a 200 square foot flat in some rural village, freezing his ass off and vigorously pointing at my autograph exclaiming to his mother "this is guy who own half of dot com!"

I've found that a lot of the above terms give people the wrong impression of what I'm doing... so saying "I'm in marketing" seems to work the best.
