What do you use for your job title, and what do you tell your friends and people that you meet when your job/career/income comes up? I've learned not to say "internet marketer" or "affiliate marketer" because people sometimes associate those with scams. The best thing to say that I've thought of is "I make websites and I get them to rank highly in Google." What does everyone else say? And what's the best job title you've come up with. Web designer? SEO?

I help people be seen in Google :-)

I have a proven track record in the entertainments industry and I've recently (12 Months) started my own entertainment (hire) business too, with leads and enquiries from only organic search.

I also tell people I generate leads and enquiries, that seems to perk interest.

Now that you mention it... I don't think I use a "job title" per se... just a quick "elevator" speech like you mentioned. "I help companies get more business by getting them found on the internet by potential customers".

If you really want to come up with a job title though you could try this "Bullsh*t Job Title Generator... it actually comes up with some pretty good ideas!!!

I say: "Web Developer" or "Web Designer", Although that's what I currently do. I'm hoping to quite and take IM on full time next year as things are looking promising!

Titles are important. What's the difference between a "Manager of IT" and "Director of Information Technology"? about 30k a year.

It goes like this: junior >>> senior >>> manager >>> director >>> vice president >>> president >>> CTO/CFO/CEO, etc.

You may be happy today with being a "consultant" or independent contractor or "web marketer" but tomorrow you could leverage your experience and your title to get a kick ass job where you might have a chance of making a lot more than what you currently make.

Thus, it's important to research what Titles pay the best and what skills those titles must have.

An example? I'm an example. A couple of years ago I was promoting myself as an SEO consultant or SEO strategist and I even managed to become a Corporate SEO consultant and INC 500 SEO consultant along the way.

I've learned along the way and now my title is Director of Internet Marketing. I've also recently used Digital Marketing Director and Search Director...always using those two keywords "marketing" and "director". By the end of the year I will be "VP of Marketing" or "VP of Internet Marketing".

Let's face it, we all have at least some competency in all aspects related to internet marketing. The best of us could easily get a high level VP job as a VP or president of Marketing. Everything from traditional marketing to attending trade shows to email marketing, blah blah blah...we all dabble or have done at least our share of research into those areas to see if they might help us in our SEO efforts.

There's not much difference between a lot of us and CEOs or internet startups...except maybe capital.

Just my thoughts and perhaps a good segway into discussions on how you should be expanding your primary expertise including more traditional marketing aspects into your SEO business.

Bro, "I make websites and I get them to rank highly in Google", I guess its not any job title.

Well we can say that our job title is SEO. Thats sound good.

Ex porn started resorting to spamming on the web selling penis enlargement pills.. lmao.. no seriously, I just tell people I am a programmer, which I do.

I say I'm a SEO, then they suddenly look at me like "U R WHAT?" or they think I said CEO instead of SEO, so they ask "CEO OF WHAT?"...so then the next thing I say is "I help people in ranking their website on google firt page so they can be found by potential client"....and then they say "AHHHHHHHH"...sometimes they still don't get it and I have to make examples -.-'
