I thought this was about what you guys do for FUN, age is irrelevant (unless of course you like to play Bingo at a retirement home, hehe)
I told you not to start on me but you didn't listen!
Ok, there, Bro; you and your funny lookin' hat anyway!
Bein' a geek at my age does indeed have its disadvantages.
No one my own age to talk to as most of those dumb buggers don't even know how to turn on a computer!
Little to talk about with them as they only want to talk about retirement, their grandchildren (Of which I have NONE and never will!) their fucking bass boats!
Or their Goddamn lawns, fer Chrissakes!
Got a raging call a while back from a guy around my age who was all in a panic because he could not figure out how to sell some stocks online via his brokerage account.
This clueless asshole had had me set up a computer system for him because he only wanted to "get emails and trade stocks" and told me very clearly that he didn't need to know anything more about computers than that.
To myself, I think, "Yeah, right!"
So.............................................................................
one day one of his stocks runs like Hell and he goes to his brokerage site, panics and calls me shouting that he cannot find the "sell now" button and that there was no way for him to sell his now very valuable stock!
Well................I had gone over to my favourite import car dealership that day to pick up some parts for the old Roller and had gone out with the parts guys and the owner for liquid dinner and after I got home, I was not going anyplace as it was doubtful that I could have found my way to end of the driveway, much less over to this asshole's house, so I told him that my car was broken down and couldn't get there.
Next day, I went to his house and heard all about the tragedy and how my computer was bad as he had lost a bundle on the stock as it had gone back down that morning.
I logged into his brokerage site and it looked fine to me so I asked him what the problem was, to which he replied that there was no "Sell Now" button.
I took a look around and determined what the problem really was.
He was logging in but was ignoring or oblivious to the great big "Next" button which would have taken him to the "Next" page which would have given him the option to sell his stock.
The net effect (pun) of this is that he is still angry with me (What the fuck did I do except point out his ignorance and refusal to learn?) and now does his transactions on the fucking telephone which results in no "real time" transactions, which when combined with the extra charges for telephone service and lag times, result in him not getting what he thinks that he should get when he sells!
Now..............the flip side of the relative internet ignorance of people my own age is that my friends tend to be much younger but they don't regard me as older because we are talking on the same level, at least as far as computers and the net are concerned.
And the girls are much younger than myself................................
Heh, heh!
