What Competitor's Metrics Should I Download?

Hello, Everyone
I'm about to start an amazon affiliate site. I have an active ahref account till May 21 and I want to spy on my competitors. What metrics should I download so that it can be used for future reference until I'm able to afford tools like Ahref, Semrush.

Check competitors keywords, then download those and also refering domains.
I set the tool to look at their traffic when looking at results, see which keywords get most traffic.

ahrefs can definitely allow you to spy your competitor's backlink profile - if their profile has extremely hq direct links from news sites like cnn, then it would be a tough competitor.
I would also rely on other metrics as well, such as TF>20 and Moz Score, as these are also indicators for hq links linking to your competitor's website.

Noob question, I got the backlink profile of a few competitors. What is the best way to out rank them? Place links in the same places as their high da tf links, i.e duplicate their best 50 links?
Is this a good way to go or is a penalty a risk?

Download the backlinks history and keyword/anchor usage. It might help you in building relevant and authority backlinks for right keywords.
