Depends what kinda skills you have already. Definitely want to know about web design or international business and marketing since you mentioned selling over seas, possibly a language class.

You don't need college for Internet marketing. Marketing is Marketing know matter what part of the earth your in or who your selling to if you really want to be good at marketing you need to understand consumer psychology. Taking exams and going to college won't give you that knowledge you need to jump in the fire and ask yourself these question.

WHO "Who are you selling too"
    WHAT "what are you selling"
WHERE" Where are your potential buyers located"
HOW " How will you get it to them"

And after you answer these questions, jump into the fire and start selling whatever it is you want to sell to people, and regardless if you FAIL OR SUCCEED then ask yourself.

    WHY!

WHY? DID I SUCCEED? WHY DID THIS CONSUMER BUY THIS PRODUCT FROM ME?
WHY? DID I FAIL? WHY DID THIS CONSUMER TELL ME TO KISS THERE ASS!

Once you answer those questions your on your way to understanding the psychology of a consumer, and once u understand the psychology of a consumer then you can call yourself a marketer online or offline.

Remember Failure is the best teacher the only way you can fail is by trying. I suggest you read some threads in here and then try whatever interest you at this time it really doesn't matter if you fail or succeed the magic question is WHY? did you fail or succeed.

If you want to be a successful online marketer then going to college is one of the worst things you could do.

You'll learn absolutely nothing useful and certainly nothing that compares to the wealth of highly relevant knowledge you'll find on bhw and other online resources.

It's quite likely you'll end up getting distracted by either the social aspect of college or you'll lose focus on your own business after 4 years of college learning.

IM changes so fast and who knows what's around the corner. Get in the game now. In 4 years you could be another graduate with another useless degree or you could be a successful online businessman with money and experience behind you.

A BBA in Marketing will always have value. However, you may want to start out at a local community college and work toward a 2 year degree in Computer Information systems. Many of the courses will directly help you in Internet marketing unless you already have skills with photoshop, illustrator, and dreamweaver. Understanding excel and access will also come in handy. You also could take courses in networking.

    You've got to be joking...

You're comparing the knowledge on BHW vs a college? I sure as hell hope a college isn't teaching spamming sites, e-whoring, fake craigslist jobs, etc.
On BHW, it may have a bit more reality than a college has. 80% of the reason I'm going to college/uni is for the certificate, and not the learning.

Tell me this, the average salary for a BHW is what... <50k a year? And the average income from IM on here is <$1000 per year, without doubt.
Here in Canada, my local university has a 93% employment rate after 6 months of graduating and a average salary for way more than what the average member will ever make in their first year of IM.

IM is risky to start, but after a while, it does get better, as proven by many members including BTB, Thomas, etc. Now, if you have a good job, of course I recommend trying IM part-time if it is of interest.

I don't say this too often, but skipping university/college to start IM from complete scratch is fucking stupid. Period.

If you want to break into a foreign market, it might be smart to bone up on a foreign language. Dive into Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian, German, something. All the better if you already have a market preference.

If you learn two languages or get into linguistics, you might pick up some valuable mental skills that will help you with SEO later on. The algorithms in search engines are math heavy, but they are hugely driven by the top human languages too. Understanding how language is put together a little better could be very beneficial.

Yes I'm comparing the knowledge. College teaches you mostly theory which is useless in the real world. You won't find many successful entrepreneurs that value college education.

Why do you want a certificate? You either aren't making money online or you don't think you'll be able to make money forever and think you'll need to work for someone else.

Once you've had your first taste of real money/freedom you'll never consider working for anyone else again.

Sure, if your aspirations are to work full time for someone else making $50k-$60k/year with the eventual chance for promotion to maybe ending up making $100k-$120k/year when you're in your 40's to 50's then I agree, college is your best option by a long way.

I personally consider $50k per *month* to be a minimum reasonable income and the vast majority of my business associates are worth at least $1mil.

We're comparing apples and oranges here. I'm talking about building a multi-million dollar online business, not making a $1k/mo from home.

hahaha awesome reply man. I freakin hate school, it takes up ALL of my time. When I could be learning more about SEO surfing bhw, i'm stuck over there all day sitting through boring ass lectures. I sware I would of built like 10 sites by now if not more. I built 3 over the summer in one month and optimized them during that time. I'm a newbie. Learned SEO in august.

Here's what school does for you, it sucks you dry out of your money and time, stresses you out, and rewards you with a useless piece of paper. Employers don't care about what university or college you graduate from, much less about that piece of paper your rewarded upon graduation. What they want is EXPERIENCE.

So I say screw going to college and screw working for somebody else like a slave. I'm graduating this year though. After that i'm done!

You said something very very important "Time" school takes up all of my time. Time is worth more then money because you can't get it back think about it like this.
You have 24 hours in a day 8 of those hours your sleep so now were down to 16 hours then u drive to work and you work there for 8 hours so now were left with another 8 hours after u factor in driving home, dealing with kids (if u have them) dealing with family and friends. eating dinner u might be left with 2 hours to yourself and more then likely u will use those 2 hours to prepare to do the same thing the next day.

And this is why people get stuck in a 9-5 because they never realize that college is teaching you how to give up the 1 thing u can't get back when it comes to making money "TIME"

That may be true, but you certainly don't come straight out of high school, broke, and risk it all by starting a business.

Oh, and there's so many of those on here... /Sarcasm. Like <1% of members on here are millionaires from online business.

Take the ones that get you the most pussy because if you're serious about internet marketing you won't find much value in college courses as most of it isn't relevant

You've got it absolutely spot on, bro.

College is only required in a few specialist industries like law, medicine and some engineering disciplines, but even within those the more experience you have the better. What employers want is experience.

I actually decided to work full time for an SEO company last year to learn about the business.. It's *so* easy to get a job when you're a businessman.

I looked up the local companies in my area. Picked the biggest. Gave them a phone and told them what I could do for them. They invited me in for a chat the next day.

That next afternoon I not only had a job offer as the sales director but I had already started work and the owner of the company wanted me to join him at a networking breakfast he was attending a few days later so he could introduce me to some people.

Compare that with some bumbling graduate with absolutely no experience who thinks jobs are all about what a company can do for you and building up your resume.

Practical experience will beat certificates any day of the week for either running your own business or getting a job.

Once you've got experience in business you're suddenly on a totally different level and you know exactly how to talk to companies to get a job. They can see that you're about making money and improving the company instead of the masses who just "want a job".

If I never found BHW i would be doing just that...NOW! i can't even think about working for someone. ONLY! thing college is good for is DEBT!

Risk what, bro? If you're broke and straight out of high school you have nothing to lose. College will suck up 4 years of your life and leave you in debt so you're forced to work a full time job you probably hate just to pay off that debt. Sounds great.

You consider yourself in the 99% then?

If you do then college is probably best for you.

I say that not because you may be actually IN the 99% but because you THINK you're in the 99%. That's the key. I strive for the 0.001% and that's what sets me apart, nothing else. It's all about how high you shoot and whether or not you stick to that goal.

Everyone who's actually made millions has aimed for the sky. If you don't aim for something how can you ever reach it?

Oh, and it's much less than 1%. More like 0.05% to 0.2%

Your all forgetting the inescapable fact that college/uni is some of the most fun you can have in your life.

With money / without money. Whatever. I would not trade my college years for a million dollars. No chance. The best time of my life without a doubt. "college is just a cerfiicate bla bla bla" - wrong, its a whole amazing experience and i genuinely feel sorry for people who choose not to experience it.

You can make money at any time of your life, you can only have the true college experience at a certain time in your life. Dont allow chances for regret in your life.

But then again, if making money is the only thing your interested in....

This debate always seems to be so divided. You can get degrees online these days. Why not do both?

BlueTurtle has some good points and my talking points were his exactly for the last 6 years. However, there's nothing wrong with pursuing a degree in your spare time and the education and credibilty it gives is beneficial.

This is a forum filled with entrepreneurs though, so that kind of advice naturally falls on deaf ears.
