Hey guys,

Last week I uploaded to 2 youtube accounts. On the third day these accounts brought over 700 uniques to my website. One week later, the same accounts are bringing less that 70 a day. Is this typical of youtube? Are new videos given much more popularity then they sink into the depths as they age? I though it was the opposite. Does anyone have possible explanations for this?

do the videos have a lot of dislikes or bad comments on them? this may have stopped visitors going to your site
 
You mentioned your videos were simple slide shows. It may be that your video was not good enough to bring people's attention, so they never watched the whole video resulting in lower rankings (YT algorithm).

Would you mind telling us what your niche is? Some niches are very competitive thus making videos harder to rank.

That actually seems like a possible explanation. My videos have no audio and are just basically ads telling people to click the link in the description. They are probably not watching the whole video. The niche is gaming, pretty saturated, but I don't have any other good niche ideas.
 
I think this is what has happened.....

When you upload a brand new video for a couple of days it ranks really high as a 'new' video, no matter how many views it has. Then after about a week, it is not deemed 'new' any more by YT and so the rank falls dramatically and therefore so does the traffic.

If I made shorter videos, then the users would (relatively) watch more of my videos, and they would rank higher with youtubes algo....anyone think this could work?

This is what it seems has happened. But there could be other variables at play here
 
most definitely but not too short or users probably won't think its a legitimate video. 2 to 3 minutes should be enough for the gaming niche
 
well I can't make them too much shorter as they are already less than 2 minutes haha. Perhaps gaming is getting too saturated....
 
maybe try lesser known games and not the obvious ones that everyone is doing. do some research and i'm sure you'll find some games that the competition is not as high in
 
Well Op, as far as I know YT now also use video length as a ranking factor. Lengthier the clip greater the ranking benefit and vice-versa. So, I don't see any benefit of creating really short videos (they are defeated at this front). Try for video length of 2 minutes and above.

I think you're mistaken. Youtube now uses how long a video is watched as a ranking factor meaning the higher the audience retention is the better you'll rank. Not the length of your video.
 
youtube always used a watch time marker for ranking.how long do people watch your video.thats very important.
