I was ranking for a really hard kw on position 4. - 5. since a year. The kw have 90.500 local searchs (exact).

To got on that position I did lots of links, around 40% exact anchor, and 80% broad anchor.

Then 2 weeks ago I lost the rankings for that url and that exactly kw (other kws on the same url didnt lost the rankings). First I thought about Penguin, so decided to wait for a week, I rewrote the content of the page and then I got the rankings back (without deleting any backlink!!!).

Then I thought that the problem was just about kw density, and I was happy because I was back. And then after 4 days ranking as usual I lost again the rankings for that keyword. So I thought again that it was Penguin.

Today after a week and still without removing any backlink or doing any onpage stuff, my site is back on position 4. for that kw.

Any ideas of what could it be?

When you say you "lost the ranking", where exactly did you drop to? What were you using to track your rankings?

Lost the rankings I mean not appearing on the first 100. I check it directly on the navigator without being logged and historial deleted. I checked it as well by using proxies, and it was always the same...

Just one thing, how do you get 40% exact and 80% broad?

Do not want to disappoint you, but when one of my sites got hit, it went down up down up and not seen it for several months now.

well, I can blame anothers SEOs that worked before me but this is not the point. Now I got the rankings back and I just wonders what kind of google-dance could it be. After a year stable and ranking 4th and now without making almost any move I got this weird changes. Just if you have some insight it would be appreciate

Read some of the google patents, they do this to check if a site spams. They will make random moves in the ranking, showing you lower rank than you should have only to see if you make changes - once you make some serious moves (kws/links etc) they might impose a penalty. It seems ludicrous they 'detect' spam this way, aka punishing people for doing the right thing.

Hi andreas,40% exact is TOO much. Stick to around 20% and not more. This way you'll make sure not to get punished. Also mate there is no chance you can have 40% exact and 80% broad, that is 120%, so you must mean 40 and 60%:P?

I didnt make the linkbuilding for the site, I am now reponsible of it. Of course I wouldnt try 40% but this is what I got. About the exact/broad I didnt explain correct. I mean 40% of exact and other 40% with broad (before on broad I count both). So the money kw is on 80% of the anchors. About the other comment about the google patent, I read it as well on seobythesea and it was pretty interesting. When i got problems with rankings I always wait for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the advice though. It might be exactly what you said and google is just trying to find spammy behaviors. I ll check it and report future "movements"Thanks guys
