Website First Impression
Your website?s first impression is vital to the success of your business. It is similar to meeting your partners parents for the first time, you?re going to want them to accept you into the family and feel assured that you will look after their dear child. Now lets say your website has a few broken links you know the kind you click and you see ?404 error?. This would be like greeting your partners mother and saying ?you look good for 70 yrs old? and she replies ?i'm 50?. Leaving broken links on your website will only offend your customers, with regular maintenance this is easily avoided and repairing links is childs play. Leaving them broken would be like saying, ?well i hope your Daughter/Son ages better? fixing the links is easy, you would say ?i?m winding you up, i thought you were her/his sister, blimy i can see where his/her looks come from now.
Broken links are small issues and easily avoided, bigger problems could be harder to fix, like complicated purchasing. This is a pet hate for me as i can't stand it when i find a product or service online that i think yes i want this and i want it now, how much is it? I press the buy now button hoping to see a price but all i see is more information that is normally the same information but in bullet points. Now i really want this product or service but i need to know the price, so i look for the checkout button which takes me to a contact us form! My mind explodes and i close the window before i put my fist through the screen.
If you have a product or service for sale always list prices and have an easy payment system, if you don't have a regular pricing system then at least offer a respective price range. Relating this to the ongoing scenario of meeting your partners parents for the first time, this would be like unplugging the freezer to plug your iphone charger in, then not plugging it back in when you leave knowing very well that hundreds of dollars worth of food will be wasted. An act like this is an argument waiting to happen, you may get away with it in the short term but it will happen eventually and when it does you will look very silly.
Jumping ahead and lets have a look at a problem that would be like happy slapping your partners father whilst taking a family photo. This is like having bad or even no SEO. If you don't know what SEO is and you own a website that has had no sales then pull the plug on your computer and go to your nearest hardware store and buy a bucket and sponge as you will make more money washing cars.
SEO is so important as without it no one will find your site, Google will grab it and stick it on page 1 million or worse Yahoo.
