Hello.

I was just wondering if anyone can help me.
I'm very good at designing websites but don't know how to put that to use.

Answers like: "Design and sell websites" are not helpful.
 
Advertise on BHW
Just go to freelancing sites like Upwork (formerly oDesk) and start a reputable profile for yourself and get bigger contracts as you go. Or you can sell your web designs on sites like Theme Forest.

I know it might sound like that but I've tried that a bunch of other times and it hasn't worked for me
 
You already able to design website, why you cant put it to work lol?

1) design website for yourself and enjoy it everyday

2) design website for potential customer on platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, Odesk, any theme related site like Themeforest, codecoynon etc.

3) or try to be a design teacher on platforms like Lynda.com, academy etc.

It's only one site, but approx 5,000 customers to poach.
Worst case scenario: Average ~$300 per client, close only 2% of listings (100 clients) you walk away with a huge portfolio and $30,000.
 
funkybunker I've been looking to get into upwork for some time now, but I kept wondering if it's really worth my time. Would you guys say that it is still worth your time to put in work on sites like upwork?

Don't go on fucking up work. There are guys from 3rd world countries that have very low price and you can't compete with them.

Search for business in usa/uk/Europe that don't have a website or have a crappy design and email/call them and offer a rework. Harder but more rewarding. Learn some sales skills also which doesn't hurt.

This is the case most times with this site but I do think if you really take the time to set yourself apart from the others on the site then I think you could make some good money. The only time you should take low paying jobs on upwork.com is when you're starting out.

Over time the goal is to keep raising your prices until you reach the point where you have high-quality clients and you weed out all the time wasters that want the highest quality for the lowest price.
 
You can list your services at BHW @ Market Place section. you can get lots of order from there as well.
 
can i see your sample website design ?
that question is familiar for you, right...?
so my suggestion is.. build on demand sample or demo project..
if you don't have domain to create personal cv, use linkedin or something like that..
and then search on bhw or any other source people who need website..
