I like this forum a lot but I'm the first to admit I am not a massive blackhatter.
Sure, I use MS, GSA, TBS and ZS to build links and create content but only on niches I am testing out - I have never had the balls to really go all out on them for my main authority sites in financial services such as insurance and tax although I have used GSA for tiers that are miles away from my moneysites.
Anyway, I decided yesterday to really go for it on one of my money sites by utilising web2.0 platforms. I have a love/hate relationship with web2.0's as I find a lot of them to be very ineffective when it comes to SERP movements but I have seen some really strange things this week (another post for that!) that tell me they still have a lot of worth.
So, from 11.30ish pm GMT until 2am this morning I created 31 web2.0s manually to add to the 43 I already have. It's not rocket science but if anyone is interested, here is how I did it.
1. I created more email addresses with the likes of gmx.com, inbox.com, myway.com, outlook.com, yahoo.com and I used a few of my dormant domains as well. I rarely use gmail.
2. I created more web identities using LastPass (its free) using the email addresses above. You can then use this for form fills with one click and it is a massive time saver when creating new accounts.
3. I open up notepad and create 6 different "about us" style descriptions - each one spun really well. Spend some time on this as it gives your site legitimacy.
4. I made sure that my copy of HMA (HideMyAss) changed its IP every time I used a new email address, so for example if I made a web2.0 with wordpress using one email address, I then changed my IP before using another email address and identity to make another wordpress site. This is probably overkill and it makes me feel better but its up to you - I don't think G has any way of seeing where you created a web2.0 site but that's just me
5. I created a folder and populated it with about 70 CC images that I had on my laptop and 11 videos of mine from my money site BUT using the YouTube URL.
6. Almost all of the 31 sites had the keyword in their site name, 'brand+keyword' or at the very least, a close variation, so if your keyword was 'Ford cars' then I would make sure that I had 'car', 'auto', 'vehicle' or something similar in the site name.
7. I then opened up the money site that I am trying to point each site to. I am slightly fortunate that this site has been around since 2010 and has over 600 posts on there. Every single page or post is original and written by me. I then chose my most popular posts (this site is in GWT as I want complete legitimacy with it being an authority site) and opened up approx.10 of them in new browser tabs.
8. I went to sleep at 2am. I woke up at 7am this morning and started to work on each of the sites I had created. Fortunately, I have a repository of over 60 posts/articles on my niche that I have not yet used. Some were written for me but the majority were done by me (using my old favourite Dragon Dictate)
This isn't a 'journey' thread, more an explanation of how I create external websites to rank my main site and for a lot of you reading this, it will be too labour (or labor) intensive.
So far today I have populated 19 of the 31 websites with content and I will revisit each of them in a week or so to add more. I really diversified the anchor text with generic anchors, my brand, my brand+keyword, click here, this page, exact keyword anchors and naked URLs such as www, http:// and .com for example. Some web2.0s are a real pain to work with...
I will let you know how it goes and see if this insane amount of manual work actually pays off but be warned, I am in a hugely competitive niche so I don't know how it will go.
