I knew that Hostgator was owned by the same company that owns iPage and BlueHost, but I didn't know that EIG had swallowed up some many hosting companies.

I was thinking about giving A Small Orange a try. Now, I'm not so sure. I'll keep looking.

I used hostgator and didn't had any problems with them. They have very good support. But nice thread anyway

Yes indeed. EIG is owned by Warburg Pincus and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners.

Yes, EIG group owns hostgator now and all the other brands listed above. Hostgator has experienced several downtimes ever since EIG took over.

Thanks for the info, i already know that companies like bluehost and ipage and are with hostgator but i didn't aware this this much companies are undertaken by this groups.

Interesting I didn't know it was the same company had all those seperate sites, of course I've never used those because I hear they're really cheap and sloppy.

I plan on going with HostGator's VPS hosting but I saw that BlueHost has the same packages but much cheaper.

HOWEVER, when I called BlueHost I was on the phone waiting for 15+ minutes. So yea the same company may own both but they are still independent of each other. This makes me then wonder if they are using the same software/tech?

I would not use BH as their service is past terrible.

I also would not touch Hostgator with a ten foot pole held by my ex-wife.

A parent company can own many hosting companies bur still these hosting companies may have different levels of services. I don't want to talk about hostgator here, but I tried bluehost, justhost and ipower knowing that they belong to the same group, and from my experience bluehost was the best of the three and ipower was the worst.

As i could see the customer reviews of Hostgator, it do have some decent reviews on its side. And i could see that you are much worried about the billing procedure of Hostgator. Not only in that company, those formalities are followed by almost all the hosting companies to enhance the security in the payment process and to avoid fraud entries.
