As far as I can tell, video editing depends more of the RAM and processor of your computer, the graphic card is useful if you are working with CAD software or using 2D/3D stuff plus plugins for AE, complicated animation, etc.

About graphic cards, ATI (now AMD) its cheaper and perform better than those NVIDIA Quaddro. I know it because I have an AMD Firepro v5900

I'm going to slog through Vegas (messed with it about 4 years ago, a little).
Then move on to After Effects.

Few years back I used to use sonic foundry vegas which was later part of sony. Now I am on linux and I use Pitivi and Kazam.

For me, I had used Pinnacle Studio before in our wedding video coverage. It is really fun to use. but unfortunately i lost all my installers when I left my previous pad. I previewed some features of AE and I think that it would be the nicest video editing software as far as efficiency is concerned.

Vegas is good, if you are good with Adobe photoshop you can use its video editing software as well, its good though!

Vegas Pro is the best. You can do a lot with the open source tools though, it's just not easy or straight-forward.

My two favorites are Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro. They do essentially the same thing, except one's for Mac, one's for Windows. Technically, After Effects isn't dedicated video editing software. Although you can technically edit video in it, it is more for video effects.

I'm using Camtasia and After Effects. Camtasia is very easy to use. After Effects on the other hand need more learning I'm planning to start learning AE becouse I need HQ videos to make.

Just about any NLE is good in the right hands -- someone who knows their craft.

Out of preference, I like Final Cut though!

I've used both, and will admit I prefer sony vegas for manipulating video that's already made.
If you have footage from a camera and need to turn it into a pro production, or if you need to extend a video so it goes well with a voiceover - vegas is amazing for this.

Worked with many adobe software products. Never edited video though, got about 30 hours of video to edit. Was going to start off trying to create a good intro and some effects in AE. Wish me luck...

Of course Adobe After Effects is stronger and more pro. The other softwares are just for small helps. If you want cut videos or something use EDIUS or Adobe Premiere .

Does anyone know of any good resources that will teach me how to use after effects, and the rest of the adobe suite. I just bought the creative cloud studies at an annual subscription.
