Not sure if people do this or is even possible (bear in mind that I'm a noob). I know that some SEO methods can get you punished by Google, so what if you did this to the companies that you're trying to compete with? Just a thought, I don't plan on doing this.

Edit: do research before posting things that are apparently very common

Nothing new. People tried this since 1900. Most of them failed miserably giving a boost to competition.

This is called 'Negative SEO'. It existed since from Google.

Welcome to Internet.

Spandexing is the first one that came up on google

Just keep in mind that karma can be a real son of a bitch

It is called: Google bowling
Maliciously trying to lower a sites rank by sending it links from the “bad neighborhood” - Kind of like yelling “Good luck with that infection!” to your buddy as you get off the school bus - there is some controversy as to if this works or is just an SEO urban myth.

There also exists: SMP (Social Media Poisoning) Any of several black hat techniques designed to implicate a competitor as a spammer - For example, blog comment spamming in the name / brand of a competitor.

Google HATES this!

3 Steps that led me to page 1 in ANY niche!

1. Create a text file called "robots.txt"

2. Copy and Paste this to it:
Code:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /

3. Upload to the root of your website

3. Profit.
