I just started my first blog and I'm targeting a very very unspecific niche with very very unspecific random posts.

It's kind of like an "Question and Answers" blog and most, if not all, of the posts are unrelevant to each other.

In my Platinum SEO settings there's an option to "Use Tags as META keywords" and this takes words from the title and uses them as META keywords.

But if the niche I'm targeting is "Questions and Answers" and the keywords on a certain page are "best ways, going, sleep" will this affect my SEO performance.

Sorry if this is a noob question.. I'm still "in training" :p.

Major search engines don't use META Keywords anymore. It won't affect you either way, but depending on how you tag can be a good thing to leave checked...

Just make sure to research your keywords and write/tag accordingly.

    ???

    Then what do they use?

    Just content?

Like what if I had a site called listentomusic.com, but all the content is all about movies. Would I end up being ranked for movie keywords?

That was just a hypothetical question asking what method does Google use to pick your sites keywords if it isn't based on META keywords. I was just really high when I wrote it and was trying to use my imagination.

Google does NOT use meta keywords as ranking singnal so do NOT assign your tags as meta keywords as they will be neglected by googlebot.

HOWEVER, my personal experience has been that:
    1) a tag cloud helps to improve the internal linkages within the site
    2) improves relevancy score of the webpage
    3) has a positive correlation to improved rankings; especially when [exact match] tags are used for posts targeting long tail keyphrases.

So my suggestion would be, manually add relevant [exact match] tags to all your posts.

    hope this helps.
