Hello guys,
I was checking some sale threads on bhw and I found it difficult to filter reviews from all those useless comments transactions IDs, coupon requests, same serp stats screenshots etc. because sale thread owners are asking clients or potential clients to do things just because they want their thread bumped.
Comment with transaction ID( I am a seller too and I don't think posting transactions IDs on sale thread will help me, just if I want to bump the thread)
Ask for coupons(Why can't you just make public the code on your latest post or ask people to send you a private massage?)
I would suggest to add a rule that doesn't allow sellers to ask this useless comments.
What do you think?
Yep, think it's a good idea. The rules already prohibit people asking for review copies and the only people that should be posting in the thread are buyers or people asking questions to help them make a buying decision.
Don't post if you are not a buyer.
It's simple if you have never used a service you can't comment on how it works / how effective it is. We ask all thread creators to report any unreasonable posts to a mod where they will be reviewed. If you are found to be using this service unreasonably you will be banned.
Don't request trials / review copies.
The op will post the number of review / trial copies they are willing to give away, if any, and will provide the criteria they require to get a review / trial copy (often these are only for Jr. VIP accounts).
If a member is going through sales threads posting a fair amount of short, random comments along these lines, we'll remove the content and give the member a warning for spam. Unfortunately, we rely on people reporting posts that break these rules and there's not much motivation for sellers to report posts that bump their threads.
Personally, I like the idea of stopping people posting "ordered service, transaction xxxxxxx957" or "interested to see how this goes" or "do you have discount codes" or similar. However, it's not just putting the rules in place, we need to work out how we'll enforce them otherwise they get ignored and members breaking the rules start complaining that other people are getting away with it.
You will always get people asking for the latest coupon or a discount, even if it's been posted on the same page. Some people are just too lazy to look!!
Transaction IDs I see absolutely no need for. If the seller wants to track BHW sales through their site they should just add a new field to their form for BHW username. (Many already do this)
Couldn't agree more. Many sellers ask buyers to post in the thread as part of the order process - it's kind of obnoxious and a fairly transparent method of gaming the rules. Also, based on the amount of shitlist threads we see where people don't know the username of the person they were scammed by, it doesn't appear to be useful for tracking forum sales.
In a similar vein, we'll often get people request that their negative review be removed "as the problem's been resolved". We sometimes find that the seller has offered a conditional refund as long as the buyer gets the bad review removed. As mods, we really dislike this type of coercion and we will come down hard on any seller doing this. A service should meet the criteria set out in the sales copy. If it doesn't, the buyer should get a refund. Holding someone's refund ransom is a great way to flag yourself up as a bad seller that we'll keep a very close eye on.
Or fake accounts with 1 message who ordered right away. Dozens on one BST..
This is a personal bugbear for the mods here - please report these wherever you see them. They're not always the easiest thing to definitively prove because sellers will use proxies for the posts, so if we can't prove they're fake on the spot, the seller will go on our list and we'll periodically check their threads for this. We've found that proxies aren't reliably consistent and zero-footprints don't exist. Sooner or later, proxies fail or people slip up and we'll pick it up during the periodic checks.
Fwiw, I'm loving this thread. Feedback and opinions like this help us determine priorities and allocate budgets when we plan forum improvements.
