Updating old website for a responsive SEO friendly one. Will it affect my PR?

Hello I manage a website that has not been updated in about a year and I was thinking of just using a newer one with a more SEO and responsive design. The PR of the current website is 4 and I wanted to know, if I made this update, would it affect my PR? Are there any factors I must consider? PM me if you want the web address.
