Translated content, Good for SEO?

I'm English but I live in Bulgaria. As an experiment I created 2 sites in the Bulgarian diet niche because Bulgarian KWs are very easy to rank for, even in the most competitive categories. I am by no means fluent in Bulgarian so I used G Translate entirely for both projects. I carried out the usual SEO and I now rank No1 in Google and Bing for both my main KWs and several others. The CPC is quite low on most Bulgarian KWs but the traffic I get is good and the content is obviously shit. I will probably use Amazon or another affiliate to cash in on the traffic.
To sum up, Google do not penalise sites that are translated. You can rank very easily by using a translator, even Google translate.
 
Advertise on BHW
It would really depend upon how important the sites that you intend to use this on may be to you. If you want to use for your money sites, get it translated professionally.
 
Better use dropped domains and get their contet from waybackmachine - than add little rewrite.
 
BEst bet is manually translate by yourself, use google translator to translate some words or sentences that you dont know
 
If you say that ... google translator do pretty good job.. there is 2 options:
-You are stupid
-Your English scks money balls

yep this pretty much covers it. the context is different, not to mention grammar, exceptions, etc. unless you're translating manually it's not a good idea as far as the article being readable. but then if you're translating manually, you might as well write a unique article. it's almost the same amount of work.

How come you ranked well for bad translated content ?
 
google knows this trick, i think it saves translated content and when you try to use it on your site you may be penalized,
just use other translator to transalte, it wont be trackable
 
Translations are catastrophic. I know because I translate a few Slavic languages and stuff that comes out of that translate generator are just ridiculous.
 
As long as the resulting article if of high quality there is a chance you would be fine. If the resulting article is bad, it is surely not going to be OK.
 
Google translator is bad for translating any language.
You have to use manually translating services for best services.
You have to hire a freelancer for getting better results.
 
If your content is for web 2.0 or buffer sites, translated articles via google translate might be a viable option but if it is for a money site or your main website that is not recommended as they can really mess up sentence structuring and grammer. I suggest hiring a freelance to help you translate those articles if it is for your main website.
 
As someone who started in translation work (and still do plenty of it on the side), I consider Google Translate to be a personal nemesis of mine. The amount of people who claim "I can just use Google Translate, why do I need you" and then come back with their tails between their hind legs is quite large.

Google Translate provides a very poor quality translation, and while it might be that you could get a certain amount of SEO benefit from translating articles into English using Google Translate, this will be extremely offset by the amount of users who leave your site with a bad taste in their mouth after their encounter with extremely sub-par content.
 
Not much worth using G translated content. they know about it easily.
 
I would translate the doc in a translation service that's not owned by big G and then re wright the content.
 
I really think OP has the answer by now as this thread was started in 2013
