This is not rocket science.

If you have a website and get traffic you want to track your users.
No matter the traffic source.

Short story.
Track their country, device/browser/app used, pages visited, obl.
Put tracking on your aff links.

Long story.
I had this website with a bunch of pages that I promoted mainly on social media.
I had analytics but didn't bothered to look into it. Just looked to see if I get traffic and how much mainly.
So... I assumed most traffic is from desktop.

After some time I took a look at analytics. Boy ohh boy.
I had 6 times more traffic from smartphones.

Website was somewhat decent on mobile... BUT
One of the most visited page had a table that wasn't optimized and looked like shit on mobile.

Fixed that and now both me and my visitors are happier. :P

Simple stuff can improve your income directly or indirectly.

like is it just me or isnt this just common sense? having your page optimized for mobile and desktop?

Perhaps, but for those with many sites, or for those holding sites developed years ago, this is a useful reminder.

The thing is that I assumed it was already pretty well optimized for mobile as well.
If it weren't for one of the most visited page... probably it would've take longer to look closer.

That's a huge problem imo. Happened to me too before.

Webmasters are building/optimizing their websites using their Desktop PC/Laptop...and they think everything works and looks great. Until they use their phone to access the website someday and figure out the theme is broken or some functions are are not working.

Always build the website for mobile first. Or at least check it on your phone before publishing it.

Two reasons:

- Most people are using their phone these days
- Goolge is all about "mobile first" so they judge your entire website if its working for mobile etc.

Probably, most economical move in terms of optimization.
