How many is too many ? 
One of my website got over 9000 backlinks in yahoo but only 12 in Google.
But really google depends too much on backlinks ...

I think it would be pretty difficult to get too many.

I believe how many in a short period of time depends on how fast Google will find those backlinks.
If you are using a slew of PR8 backlinks then google will find those faster so I would go lightly on those levels of PR.
If you are using a slew of PR 3 - PR5 then you can use more of these at once because Google isn't going to find these all at once.
I suggest trying it out and see what happens....nothing is solid in SEO that I've found.
I normally use a lower PR blast to my newer sites and blast the higher PR to my buffer sites.
Also I don't suggest rolling all your backlinks into an RSS feed to submit all at once because your basically giving Google your blueprint of what you just did and it will not look as natural as when Google finds the links on it's own.
That's only really okay to do in the beginning of a new site in the indexing phase.

I build a few thousand links per day on one of my websites and I'm still safe in google.

In the long run it doesn't matter how many you have. You can never have "too many"
Sure your site might "bounce around" for a month or two -but that's not something to do with backlinks.
Look if backlinks were "bad for your site" I'd be firing hundreds of thousands of porn and scat backlinks through Xrumer at all my competitors wouldn't I?
Fact is - backlinks are always a positive in the long run.
Think long term, and think tens of thousands of links.

a) Have a lot of patience or...
b) Have found a niche with no competition

I'm also building several thousand backlinks per day and I'm not having any real problems. Just keep it consistent and as simpleonlinetest stated, putting them into an RSS feed isn't a good idea - Let Google find the links by themselves.
