The Ultimate Amazon Thread Mark 2 - Q/A - Good/Bad

Honestly this morning as I sat typing away - I thought to myself why type out some huge breakdown of everything that I do.

Many individual things are already in the thread.

But the overall goal of any Site I make is for it to average $100 a month - 12 months a year.

Sites that don't do that I get rid of -- and I try to keep my investment as low as possible starting out - just to make sure I can rank and I get enough Sales.

If you have Authority Sites then obviously your looking at a different sort of monetary focus.

Really with Amazon its simple -- make money - buy everything you need -- streamline the work as much as possible ----> profitability rises.

Hey guys,

Just want to chime in and update you on my progress. I just doubled May revenue. I'm closing June at 1200$. Now the point is, if you take it this as a business, it will naturally grow. DO not be afraid to put some effort into SEO, content, UX, ect.

If I manage to do it, anybody can do it seriously.

Best of luck everyone,

JD77

I'm about to start my first couple of Amazon sites, I've been doing the keyword research and looking at the Top 10 pages in the SERPs.

Honestly I have to say there are some really weak niches out there. I just want to make sure I'm not crazy but for some terms which get 4000+ LMS (exact match US) some of the competition seems very weak.

I'm talking about other Amazon sites which have weak backlinks and under 10 pages of content, I'm confident I can beat that. For me it is a good sign if another Amazon site is ranking high right?

Don't get me wrong I have seen some really good ones ranking high for 10,000+ LMS KWs so for those I would rather not try and compete with.

I own 30+ domains but only have 2-3 sites that are making any money right now; the rest are setup on hosting but have nothing on them. I've also let a few dozen expire after testing a variety of tactics. One is a single-page static site that promotes a $7 item that people buy multiples of (during one month out of the year people sometimes buy 30-40 of them at a time). My second site targets kitchen products in the $50-300 range. I have custom designs on both sites. The second site is built on Wordpress with a TwentyEleven child theme that I created. I integrated a lot of things that I found by analyzing the competition and by looking at sites like consumer reports to see where they place page elements and then correlate that to heatmap studies that I've read.

I start sites with TwentyEleven as the theme and then write 3 lengthy product review pages and then build out 3-5 informational or howto pages to support the money pages. I submit the sites to pingler and stumbleupon; that's it for links. In the sidebar I add a popular products section and then a few images that link to the internal pages followed by the required affiliate disclosure. For plugins I just install Yoast SEO, Statcounter, and Widget Logic. I use Widget Logic so that I have different sidebars for each of the money pages where I put an "At a Glance" box with a rating, specs, a link to relevant things such as product manual PDFs, and a custom button linked to Amazon.

Once the site starts getting traffic and clickthroughs to Amazon then I spend time customizing the theme further and improving the page content. I learned that after this last update adding to pages seems to be more effective than creating new pages. Another thing I noticed is that whatever is in the top right corner of the site gets a lot of action; I've used the first widget in my sidebar to direct traffic to the pages that are either the most frequented from searches or that are the best resources I could build. I put a group of 4-5 pages there as custom buttons, watch what results from them in terms of traffic to the page and sales, and then I rotate them out for another batch of pages as I improve them. Eventually I'm hoping that through this method I can improve all of the pages to the point that they produce a regular, acceptable volume of clickthroughs to Amazon. I also have on one of my sites a plugin that logs searches that are performed on the site and then use the top searches each week to find new content to write about.

I've been involved in Amazon for about two years now and have done it mostly in spare time but now that my freelance business has gone down the tubes I'm looking to work on my Amazon sites full-time (or as near to it as possible). I've been paid out almost every month since the first payout cycle. At the beginning of the year I had a few pretty solid months but since then it's been down to $75-100/mo. Danny is right though, it all comes down to following a few basis rules and then experimenting to find your secret sauce. Thanks a bunch for this awesome thread dude!

June 2013 - 2 sites, seo, 985 clicks, 55 items shipped, 5.69% conversion,$96.69
May 2013 - 2 sites, seo, 667 clicks, 46 items shipped, 7.20% conversion, $86.86
April 2013 - 2 sites, seo, 803 clicks, 70 items shipped, 8.84% conversion, $75.09
March 2013 - 2 sites, seo, 1190 clicks, 84 items shipped, 7.48% conversion, $142.51
Feburary 2013 - 2 sites, seo, 1129 clicks, 201 items shipped, 18.42% conversion, $615.76
January 2013 - 2 sites, seo, 1227 clicks, 317 items shipped, 29.83% conversion, $1084.06

January and February were doing great and then out of nowhere I woke up to no traffic. Conversions have gone down this month as I was experimenting with Tumblr. I was able to get about 200 clicks but they didn't convert into sales. I had a hunch that it would be a fail but wanted to test it anyway.

Thanks for the detailed report :)

in my opinion, either Jan & Feb were high because of the holiday season or the product you are promoting is somehow cyclical..

you are still averaging 350 dollars per month which is around 170 per website per month... if you can duplicate that for 10 or 30 or 50 websites it will make a descent amount and you will see less fluctuations in earnings

from my part i have one website, made 12 dollars in may and 40 dollars in june and working on several others.

thanks for chiming in - I hope more people can do the same .. best of luck today.

I should have pointed it out in more detail in my last post but I use statcounter for my analytics for a few reasons. Like Danny I try to use as few Google services as possible and secondly statcounter gives you realtime looks at the paths your visitors are taking through your site. This allows you to see in realtime who visits your site, which pages they viewed, and then if they go to Amazon you can see which affiliate link they clicked. With these stats I and knowledge of my average conversion rate I can predict earnings pretty accurately each day and quickly see if new techniques are producing an increase in CTR.

hi guys

after read this thread i immediately search for emd based on amazon categories
and i found one
so i just bought it <its .org>
but after few days i know this domain is had registered and the owner let it expired

this is backlink profile in majesticseo <use historic index>
emd+historic.PNG
and the anchor
emd+historic+backlink.PNG
the blue one is exact kw <it's 95%>

this is backlink profile in majesticseo <use fresh index>
emd+now.PNG
and anchor
emd+now+backlink.PNG

what do you guys think ? i don't know if this domain was hit or not
should i continue this < i had post 1 1000 words article> or buy and .info domain ?

thanks guys waiting for your reply

^ I would definitely not waste my time with that, it's very likely to be penalised and I wouldn't want to take any chances of working on domain like that.

Don't buy a .info, they are weak and very rarely rank well. I would just get a non-emd .com domain. There are so many words you could add to get a PMD and these days domain names are not very important.

You used to get a benefit from using an EMD - but that's no longer the case these days

So on a scale of importance it ranks pretty low.

I do think that a domain can help filter traffic - because general traffic rarely buys anything
so filtering it somewhat beforehand can be helpful.

cheers

Which is the best tool for long tail keyword research for amazon sites............?
please suggest me free or paid......

I like Jaaxy myself but haven't had enough luck with keyword tools providing actionable information so I typically just do my research on Amazon and on Quora.

if I build a reviews+howto site, where's the best place I can get royalty free images that used for information articles?

But the overall goal of any Site I make is for it to average $100 a month - 12 months a year.
Sites that don't do that I get rid of -- and I try to keep my investment as low as possible starting out - just to make sure I can rank and I get enough Sales.
Danny1111, could you please sell these sites?

I already said it into the thread. Only 1 site.
johnnyd77, How many exact local searches of your main keyword?
