The September 2022 core update (Here We Go Again!)

I’m noticing a LOT of e-commerce websites ranking number one now In my niche for my old keywords. They have some articles on their websites closely related to the topic but they will be a clothing e-commerce store, or a furniture store, etc.

I just saw this but that’s what im seeing in my niche too. The number one spots are ecommerce with one article on the subject or closely related.

If it’s not a ecommeece site ranking, some websites I can see why they would rank, as their articles or websites look pretty professional. however, a lot of them are super broad websites as well. Websites were there is no way the person who owns it could be an expert in the field like google wants. Unless somehow you can be a car, home improvement, travel, gardening, pet, and bitcoin expert all at once lol.

Last week. Impressions and clicks were reduced by 80%. The niche is home products, it is an AI site but I edit the posts manually, add FAQ, and add infographics and images, it is an affiliate site with infographic posts.

They were targeting AI sites and affiliate sites.

In 2 weeks it will complete and then we will have new update.
 
From what I have noticed only certain pages and categories (along with the posts) have been hit and the traffic has dropped 80%. From top 5 to nowhere to be found (100+). The categories are pretty much same design and the posts have similar posting structure and all that stuff. Still cannot figure it out. The rest pages and categories are sitting at the top 5 positions. Also, the homepage (partial keyword) is ranking on the first spot along with some of the rest pages/categories/posts. Anyone here with website that has been hit like this? Talking about no product review website and completely whitehat.

That is exactly what I am seeing. Some posts gone from top to nowhere, other still ranking. And the SERPs for queries where my site is gone are crap. Sometimes I see spun version of my article ranking in top 10 while my article is gone.

Is your website a product review one? Have you built or noticed any new links recently?

They are getting ranked because of the huge number of mentions they get from news sites and all.
 
Two of my clients got smashed on Sept 12th. Traffic down 60 percent. They are not even showing up for their own city in SERPS. One of my clients' sites has 22 million links and are being out ranked in their own city by sites with 20 links and 8 links.

Out of 300 articles, around 50 are the 'best x for y' review articles, the rest are informational articles but many have affiliate links.

Nothing extraordinary linkwise.

A few things I noticed where Google is behaving strangely:
  • Google has a hard time understanding article topics. E.g., I have two articles - best front x for y and best rear x for y, and I see G alternating ranking both for kw best front x for y. I mean - front is front, rear is rear. Each article is optimized for either rear or front.
  • Google is not ranking my article 'how to do x with y' but is ranking for 'how to do x with a y'. E.g. not ranking for 'how to cut grass with lawnmower' but is ranking for 'how to cut grass with a lawnmower'
