First and foremost, thank you to the original poster for posting that link.

I appreciate the resource you posted because a lot of us on this forum are complete newbies when it comes to finding keywords.

    Make no mistake about it.

Google keyword planner is a great place to start.

If you are a complete newbie, start with Google keyword planner.

    Cut your teeth on it.

    Know the ropes.

Once you have built a website or two, it's time to graduate to other ways of finding keywords.

The big drawback to Google keyword planner is that whatever keywords you find using that tool, are closely related to the seed keyword or topic that you used.

I hope you can see what's wrong with this picture.

Instead of spitting out new ideas or new directions, it's essentially just giving you words that are textually related.

In other words, enough of the text is present in these so related keywords and that's how it finds related words.

It's not very intelligent in that respect.

The second big danger with Google keyword planner is that if you are able to find keywords using this tool, you can bet that your competitors will also find the same set of keywords.

This is why a lot of people who use Google keyword planner have to face a lot of competition.

Again, I'm not bashing Google keyword planner.

It's absolutely essential to know how to use it properly and that's why I congratulate the original poster for posting the Google keyword planner tutorial.

However, if you want to be successful in SEO or in any kind of online marketing, you need to take Google keyword planner to the next level.

Don't just remain at that level.

There are other techniques you can use to find thematic keywords that your competitors may have overlooked.

Doing things that way is what will give you a real competitive advantage.
