Hey All,

There's threads here talking about the maximum number of back links to get per day in order to not get banned from Google and what not... Some others say its all about getting as many back links as possible... almost as conflicting as tips for weight loss... lol

I thought given you cant really control your own sites responsibility as to who links to you, that back links wouldn't be a de-listing offense.

My question (and here's where the thread title comes in)... If you had a competitors site above you in the serps, and if things like too many back links too quickly caused bannage, what is stopping a person from taking out competition that way?

More importantly, does anyone here know other "norti external" things that may affect my rankings? (cloaking for the most part isnt external as I'm doing it on my own site... directly)

Sure, someone can duplicate your content and that can lower your rankings.

yeah! Don't know what people do when this problem shows up...

If only I knew some really crappy mailing lists that dont require confirmation of email before mailing out.

i have had new domains with 600 backlinks per week, but they were sitewide. the site didn't get banned but penalized. after some time it gets back in business.

lets say that 5 to 10 backlinks per day in the beginning is alright.
know also that if you have alot of backlinks with the same title you will "eat the wood" more often than with random titles (exmpl: today - 5 links with one title, tomorrow with another).

IMO the domains with history in the web archive are different, but i'm not sure about that.

I really don't think that it matters what-so-ever who links to you and how often as that would just be WAY TO EASY to take out your competitors and I don't think Google is that stupid. I think the only way you would be delisted is by who you link back to. Now as for the weight the backlinks would carry on your site, thats another story. I think if it didn't look a little more natural they are not gonna help you at all. I am sure Google has filters for this type of activity.

Although you may be right, who knows really? Have you ever tested it? I know people who have done this to try and sabotage their competitor and it didn't really seem to work to well. And based on other things I have seen with my own eyes I would venture to say it doesn't work, but again who knows really unless you try it

Do you know them highly anticipated startups or official movie websites for example... Or even products? They launch and get millions of visitors the same day that spread the word and blog about it or post on forums etc They get absolutely flooded with links... I am yet to see any of these penalised.
