Meta may apply a temporary hold on your payment method to verify the transaction when you begin running ads. This amount is not an actual charge — it's just a hold and usually lasts 1–3 days, or until you're successfully billed for your ad spend. In some cases, the hold may last up to 5–7 days, depending on your bank or card provider.

Common reasons for a failed temporary hold:

  1. Insufficient funds:
If your account balance is too low, Facebook can't apply the hold.
  2. Bank restrictions:
Some banks or virtual card providers block temporary hold requests from Facebook. To fix this, contact your bank and ask them to allow pre-authorization or temporary holds from Facebook.
  3. New or unverified ad accounts:
New or partially verified accounts may be subject to additional verification steps, which can prevent the hold from going through.
  4. Facebook system issues:
Occasionally, platform errors or restrictions on Facebook's side may cause hold failures.

How to resolve "Temporary Hold Unsuccessful":

  • Ensure sufficient balance:
Make sure your payment method has enough funds.
  • Contact your bank/card provider:
Ask them to allow Facebook's pre-authorization holds.
  • Add a new payment method:
Try adding a new card and set it as the primary payment method.
  • Create a low-budget test campaign:
Run a campaign with a small daily budget (e.g. $2) to trigger the hold process.
  • Reach out to Facebook Support:
If nothing works, contact Meta Business Support for further assistance.

Yup, seen this happen a lot lately. Especially with virtual cards or new ad accounts. What helped me was adding a real bank card and starting with a super low budget campaign, like $1–$2/day. Triggered the hold and cleared it within a day.

Some accounts refund the hold very late, so it's better to try keeping the account live until you get the hold amount back, then start working on Black ads

Usually, the payment is held longer than we expect - sometimes even for a whole month

I have an account but only if the account is disabled will the hold be returned to the bank
