I'm getting my first one soon.

I made myself stick with a design for 6 months (woke up to a picture of it each day) before I would let myself get it inked onto my skin. Still love it, still significant. I'd rather not say what it is, but it's about the size of a piece of regular printing paper.

Now I just have to figure out where I want it, how much I'm willing to spend, and who the best artist is in BC.

Any first-person advice / soliloquies would be much appreciated.

I got a bunch. If you still like it after all this time then you will probably like it. My artist who has won shows and has been around forever did say that remember it sends messages to people and they will base opinions on you based on them...which really dont bother me. He also said the meaning thing is kinda over rated as it is basically art on your skin. I have seen some really bad tats just because they had to have meaning. And dont get anything that is a fad or gonna get dated, like tribal or something. He wont even do anything like that anymore. Find an artist and look at their porfolio because each will have their own style and put their own spin on what you want. Good luck, I love mine...2 full sleeves and chest and going to get my whole back done soon!

I have several as well. I have a buddy who has some really funky weird tattoos (cartoons, n stuff). He gets them for the people's reactions for when they view them. I got mine because I liked them. Some people get them for the meaning it signifiies, others for the way it looks, and some for the reactions. Get it because you love it. They're bad ass. It'll be there forever or unless you laser it off. By the way, once you get one, you'll want several more. I'm looking to finish up a full sleeve. Enjoy it!

Got a few myself. Advice: Pay top dollar and a top notch studio, and you'll be wearing your ink with pride for many many years to come....

Make sure the artist has a great reputation and lots of experience. Also make sure to take care of the tat after you get it because its basically an open wound for a few weeks and needs proper aftercare.

I was actually thinking about getting one done today that says "Carpe Diem".

If you have liked it for this long then you probably like it even more in ink. My advice is go for it!

Well youve certainly taken your time and been very sensible about it. So go for it!!

As others have said, go for the best artist in your area. I don't have any myself but I have shot a lot of tattoo conventions and the cream really does rise to the top. One of my best friends just recently got one and I haven't had the heart to tell him how bad it sucks.
