If you're going to test if the super EMD is better than a non-EMD domain shouldn't you have tried to rank two sites using the exact same link types? One site a normal domain and the other a super EMD? This gives you what a basis for comparison.
We have no way of telling if your super EMD is now ranking better or worse than a normal domain now. All this proves is that a super EMD *can* rank.
The good news... its not too late. You can still pick same niche and use a normal domain with same link strategy and see if it ranks better/worse.
Good point. If it wasn't about to hit the #1 spot I would consider it, but at this point I believe it can rank as strongly as a .com, and even if it can't, it still *can* rank as we've shown.
I did not get the EMD .com because it wasn't available at the time. (Now I see it at $100)
Two main takeaways are:
.com and other top tier domain extensions are often taken, and/or very expensive via private sellers or auctions (
which is the exact reason for this case study. Most good .com EMD are taken)
Super EMD is rankable which opens up new opportunities. This is akin to the .com goldrush, followed by .org, .net, and eventually EMD SEO wildwest free-for-all a few years back. Now a new market has emerged where you are only limited by your imagination as there are a myriad of domain extensions, and keyword combinations, available at regular retail price.
If someone wants to join the fun they can buy the .com and try to outrank me, but remember this point.
EMD .com domains did get hit, because Google did not want to see HowToUnclogYourToilet.com rank for How to Unclog Your Toilet. If anything, this proves to be a long term solution.
It is the lowest common demoninator.
Wolverine.toys can NOT be anything other than what it is, Wolverine Toys. It's a 1 word domain with a 1 word TLD extension.
Buying the EMD .com is a amalgam of two words masquerading as a one; the
glaring footprint and loophole Google closed down - multi-word EMDs.
After seeing it soar to #3,
I would much rather have a SUPER EMD than the .com, but it's available and I welcome the competition if anyone wants to pick it up.
