(this could be seen as grey hat, not necessarily black or white) New TLDS are very shiny right now, as Godaddy and other registrars begin to push them. After all, domains are at a premium along. What I wanted to test was whether or not a new TLD domain could rank, but not just rank, be used as a "Super EMD" by incorporating the extension as part of the desired phrase to rank. For example, I registered a toys domain. The target keyword phrase is Wolverine Toys. Traditional EMDs would register wolverinetoys but with this new approach domains are shorter (which is always a plus), and it maximizes the TLD.

So far the website is ranking on page 2 for Wolverine Toys, and not for Wolverine (the word used before the tld), showing that the TLD itself does have rank influence. We all remember the fiasco of the EMD sites getting penalized, but they still do work. With domain extensions popping up everywhere it's important to know if they are a complete waste of time for SEO, or if they are true viable options.

I will monitor and update this thread. To find you have to Google:
BacklinksVault (one with stars) and go to June archive (google deindexed at one point and acts odd). I'll update with a live link once I get more posts.

No comments are enabled on the site, as I want the interactions to remain within the BlackHatWorld community. Please keep in mind I'm investing a few $$$ out of pocket to test this and any insights or thoughts would be appreciated. Could open up a lot of possibilities if this works and is able to get to #1

Came here to see how stupid this was going to be.
Browsed over it and still thought it was stupid.
Then actually read it, and it is kinda interesting.
Did you build any links to it? EMD values are pretty low now days, so if you didn't build any links to it I'm surprised it's ranking so well.
On top of that, I can't imagine Google putting any value in these new retarded domains, but your ranking seems to prove otherwise.

Can confirm this is possible...I have a new one, which is ranking #3 for a pretty decent money keyword with only 50 links and 1 page of content...the onpage stuff is as good as it gets (imho), but that isn't rocket science. Site has been there for 2 months. It also ranks well for a number of related long-tail kws.

Now examples like these are always to be taken with a grain of salt because every search ecosystem is different, so don't think you can grab forex.trade and automatically make millions in a couple weeks...however, who knows. ;-)

Thank you for reading and saying it's interesting. The actual blog post to the case study can be found using the instructions in the original post.

You'll see I have done some social and backlinks. Was thinking of adding to Crowd search me as well. It's now jumped in bing and yahoo and is on the first page.

Probably everyone getting their piece. Godaddy stuffs their pockets with cash to show these names aren't useless and in return Google gives them a little juice for the time being. And OP works for GOdaddy :)

Interesting thought. How much did this domain cost you? I was looking through godaddy for some of my keywords and it seems that any .reviews extension is at least $500.

The price does vary too much for the new TLDs. Some cost $20-$XXX like you said.

ha, yes you found me out! I work for Godaddy :)

I see this is a positive thing though, because it means more possibilities for SEO and online marketing if the other "useless" domains are shown not to be as useless as once previously thought. I bet print advertising and other would do well since it's a short domain...general public might not understand it's a website though. We'll see how this goes

.review is $18- at namesilo and about $25- at namecheap, but a lot of them are already gone taken by squatters, and if you want one of those then you have to have deep pockets sometimes.

@OP interesting read/case study, i wonder if this could be the new EMD graze that we have seen 2 years ago, might be doing some testing on this in the weekend.

Only 50 links? I take it this is gsa, 2.0s, or other weak links? 50 links to a single page is excessive, and if they're pbn links imo that is ridiculously high to be associated with the word "only".

50 links is excessive and 50 links with GSA???

Please educate yourself before commenting because everything you said made no sense at all.

50 links to a domain or even a inner page is FAR FROM excessive, and you would not use GSA to build 50 links as 50 links are nothing for GSA

Built much more than 50 links.

    Social strategy:
Created a Facebook fanpage, 5 posts each, 100 interactions on each one
Created a Twitter page, 5 tweets each, 100 interactions on each one
Created a Pinterest page, 5 pins each, 100 interactions each one
Created a Google plus page, 5 posts each, 100 interactions each one
Created a Youtube channel, 5 posts each, 100 subscribers

    Links on highpagerank PBN

    Social bookmarks
    Forum Profiles
    Public/Private PBN from SafeRankBacklinks

    All links submitted to BacklinksIndexer

It's a well rounded/, somewhat white hat approach, but believe it can be pushed even further with more volume.

Important to note on the profiles and other backlinks the ONpage SEO titles always include Wolverine Toys to avoid any obvious link spam.

*If you check my other forum link building case study you'll realize that the links went to irrelevant websites based on the page relevancy, ONpage meta title and content within the thread. With this new approach the ONpage SEO matches up perfectly to the outbound link to the Wolverine Toys website. Seems trivial but Google is about relevancy and this makes all the difference*

Cool approach, but could you tell us how many PBN links, you know PBN have high influence on ranking.
Have you tried any New Tld without PBN or this does "Wolverine Toys" site ranked before using PBN link?

Only a couple PBN links used, focus was on other long term strategies.

I wonder if more volume/spammier type links could be used since it's a "Super EMD", same way you used to be able to send tons of volume at regular EMDs a few years ago

Ranking in Google now around #7. Trying out some new tactics, will see how it goes. Also started to sell some random products on Amazon and a few clicks from Adsense.
