Hey guys, I've been a member here for quite sometime and always get great ideas. I wanted to share one of my new ideas with BHW to help out others too and maybe get some good feedback on how I might be able to improve my strategy.
I use GetResponse for some website lead capture but then mainly TotalEmailAutoResponder (TEAR) for marketing because I have full control of my SMTP with TEAR and bounce rates are usually much lower .3% with my SMTP provider (Sendgrid) compared to 8% with Getresponse. This is one of the reasons I came up with the strategy I'll describe below.
These are my statistics for 80k emails sent using TEAR:
The way I use GR and TEAR for a super effective lead conversion tactic:
Should work for any AR service like Aweber, mailchimp, etc.
Getresponse is good at capturing leads on my site by optin form but newsletters are boring and convert poorly. So I use the other program to convert those leads by setting up a campaign in TEAR setup where GetResponse sends a new user subscriber notification to a POP3 account like [email protected] and then TEAR can read the Getresponse notification email, extract the name and email from the email body, and then mail that lead in conversation style which is super effective.
Like sending an email like "Hey [toname], saw you were interested in..."
Emails like that never go to spam if your using SMTP and you can steer that conversation in any direction to sell your lead on something.
Step 1:
Setup Getresponse to email you when you have a new lead join your list.

Step 2:
Add SMTP and POP3 accounts
SMTP:
As you can see I use Sendgrid as I mentioned above. This makes sure your emails are delivered.
POP3:
You need to add at min 2 accounts. 1) The email account your GetResponse notifications go to and 2) The email account you will be emailing your leads from.

Step 3:
Setup response series that automatically emails new lead. Some of my pitches I have 4-5 responses before I try to sell them something via a link. Sometimes I also just tell them to add me on skype if it is a more high value lead so I can convert them personally later. But if this is for 1-2k leads daily you can craft some pretty nifty response series based off what people say. You just need to check the conversations sometimes to better tweak your responses.

Recommended Settings for smooth running. I think if the POP3 account gets too filled up It causes problems and TEAR might hit leads twice. But if you want to monitor conversations later you can simply forward all emails from the main POP3 account to another email account that you use for the personal monitoring and/or later downloading of leads into a list. (This is what I do)

Step 4:
Setup GetResponse new lead notification extractor. This is a quick step

Step 5:
Test your setup.
1. Add yourself in your optinform
2. Check if you get a notification of new lead in your POP3 account
3. Run TEAR POP3 and SMTP in "Run AutoResponser"
4. Check to see if email delivered in your inbox
5. Reply to email and see if it reply's back after manually running TEAR again
6. If everything works your good to go.
Step 6:
Rinse and Repeat. If you are getting leads responding to your TEAR campaign check to see how people communicate. If the response can be fixed up definitely tweak them to make the automated conversations feel more real/personal.
Tips:
1. Don't send links in the first email to avoid SPAM filters
2. Use Tags in emails to make them more personal and relevant
Thanks guys and enjoy!
I'll edit this post if I come up with better tweaks or get good ideas from feedback.
