I was hit in November with whatever update they threw out, then 1 site came back but nowhere near as strong as it was before it got hit. I am in the adult section and over the last few months what I have noticed is that more and more authority is pushing up to the top, and affiliate sites are getting hit all over the place. I also watch the SERPs very closely and have noticed so much jumping about in some niches, ranking old sites of mine that never really ranked that well in the past, they appear for a day or so and then gone again, it's been going on for weeks, nothing seems stable in my niche except the authority sites mostly.
I lost thousands of long-tail keywords in November and what I notice now is, it is almost always authority ranking in their places, magazines, newspaper articles, youtube, information sites which is ridiculous in the adult section -I have also noticed that 2-word keywords seem to be going the way 1-word keywords went.
I googled a very popular 2-word keyword in the adult section the other night what I got was - Wikipedia, vice, Forbes, the mirror ( newspaper article about the subject) urban dictionary, NYTimes and in amongst that 1 actual adult site ( what an absolute joke) If they are trying to give a better user experience they are not doing very well, as people searching for adult content don't want to read an article -
I have a lot of sites and can find no connection between the ones that were hit, some are on expired, some have 301,s some have loads of pages of content, - The only connection I can find is affiliate links on my sites.
I am sorry to those of you who have been hIt it is gut-wrenching, I have felt it since November now making a 1/4 of my income.
I am just sick of google and wish someone could compete with them.
Merry Xmas to you to google
