Sudden Ranked Drop? Google Algo Update?

I was hit in November with whatever update they threw out, then 1 site came back but nowhere near as strong as it was before it got hit. I am in the adult section and over the last few months what I have noticed is that more and more authority is pushing up to the top, and affiliate sites are getting hit all over the place. I also watch the SERPs very closely and have noticed so much jumping about in some niches, ranking old sites of mine that never really ranked that well in the past, they appear for a day or so and then gone again, it's been going on for weeks, nothing seems stable in my niche except the authority sites mostly.

I lost thousands of long-tail keywords in November and what I notice now is, it is almost always authority ranking in their places, magazines, newspaper articles, youtube, information sites which is ridiculous in the adult section -I have also noticed that 2-word keywords seem to be going the way 1-word keywords went.

I googled a very popular 2-word keyword in the adult section the other night what I got was - Wikipedia, vice, Forbes, the mirror ( newspaper article about the subject) urban dictionary, NYTimes and in amongst that 1 actual adult site ( what an absolute joke) If they are trying to give a better user experience they are not doing very well, as people searching for adult content don't want to read an article -

I have a lot of sites and can find no connection between the ones that were hit, some are on expired, some have 301,s some have loads of pages of content, - The only connection I can find is affiliate links on my sites.

I am sorry to those of you who have been hIt it is gut-wrenching, I have felt it since November now making a 1/4 of my income.
I am just sick of google and wish someone could compete with them.

Merry Xmas to you to google

I got hit December 4th. lost 30% of my income and its killing me. Thank god for crakrev and lifetime rev share or id have to do something else. I am also in adult. I thought maybe it was just me.

no, it's definitely not just you,

I am so fed up when I look at the search results and see these articles ranking in place of actual adult sites, I wonder to myself how long before surfers get fed up with this also? Yes, I have some revenue share as well thankfully.

I had a great 5 years and sometimes I feel guilty for moaning, I always knew it would never be forever but you are never ready for it.

I wonder what it will all be like in the next couple of months, it makes you realize one thing, and that is I have been building my sandcastles on googles beach and not using other ways and now the tide has come in and swept me away.

Time to look at some other ways to get traffic, sick of google

The same. Adult niche, started to lose traffic and drop in rankings from 3rd of December, lost ~50% of traffic.

What strategy are you thinking? I am lost. Start investing time into bing?

Yeah, so bert is rolling out, adult sites are targeted hard, including celebs ones, images ones, anything related to p0rn or xxx words.

This is what the new CEO planned from start, to filter all adult shit from G.

Those guys are crazy, they really want to lose 60% of search daily.

Since the big update from summer, G got a shit ton of bug's, and they still make updates to hunt sites instead fixing those bugs.

Who really believes it will be more or less fixed? I had no experience with algo issues

cross my fingers, well for me , noticed it seem organic traffic slowly increase back but shall see . Past two days I does got hit organic traffic drop.

no single statement from Google or their employees on this? I mean it seems like many people on here got affected by this. Won't be only us.
I don't think we are important at all. Traffic, keywords go up and down all the time. Even authority sites that never used any black hat strategies go down at some point, so there is nothing we can do about it. And I think they don't target adult sites only, I've seen traffic drop last 2 weeks on some other sites too.

Hard to say. Google is not transparent at all. Basically all we can do is just wait and watch. Today many of my keywords jumped from #50+ to #30-35. If this is an update, then its not finished yet.

One Keyword....Ranking up, impressions down ?!? WTF

same for me, keywords which dropped seem to be going back to where they were but no organic traffic (I am in the UK) at all today.

What makes you believe that big authority sites (with their almost bottomless budgets) do not do any black hat?
Most people who approach me with a request for paid link placement/blog post represent private universities, big software companies, etc... Definitely sites you'd call authority.

And buying links (doesn't matter whether on shitty blog networks or on other high authority sites) is not white hat... Whether someone plays black hat or white hat has nothing to do with the age, size, or reputation of their website.

Somehow I believe all this black hat debating is bullshit or at least not a good practice for Google. At the end of the day, the optimal result for users is serving the best content. It doesnt matter if the websites are doing blackhat or not, it is Google’s job to give users the best content. Punishing websites for building links are just showing how incompetent Google are.
