Sudden Ranked Drop? Google Algo Update?

Big core update even if its way to early to say anything. Huge fluctuations in big sites whereas small sites seem to profit right now as well as spam pages do rank amazingly now but thats high probably returning to normal when storm is over. Right now researching big keyword and markets any search result leads in more spam then quality pages. Let's see after a few days but i dont know a single webmaster with daily google traffic 20k + that isnt facing huge keyword jumpings, drops or losses.

Has anyone who's had this weird stuff going on since January 7th recovered yet with this new update?

My ranks recovered today but I really don't know if I should be excited. Not sure what's up with big G these days.

one of my websites still bad in the rankings. it's not even black hat which hurts most lol

i lost 80% of my traffic started yesterday..i think this update come with couple phase...in late november 2019 im noticing slight drop (20-30%) but yesterday is the huge one...my traffic drop almost like my website got hit by manual pinalty

Received today a google ads voucher from google... nice.

I just notice it today.

From Ranking

1 > 55
5 > 44
6 > No where.

No penalty issue.
No on page errors.

First week of dec, i just disavow spammy links and adult link site.

What could be the reason?
Simple, google just announced new algo update read about it

Nothing changed for me, got hit 16 december and websites dead 7 January, today and yesterday nothing got back. Wait the end of this week

Lol aaand that's why Google updates/shuffles everything every couple months. Get more people on their overpriced PPC ads instead of organic search.

Are u blind?
He's one of those people who come here to talk and say useless things. Kind of like the ones in the previous pages who come and say: "You should just make more content" or "you've been penalized for not respecting Google's rules".

I find it hard to understand their objective. Maybe make it look like they understand something, I don't know...

With the kind of information given what kind of valuable answer you're looking for, detailed analysis of your ranking history!!?

it is true that black hat can give you instant results. but it is not reliable , later your google ranking will be drop down. Black hat is mostly for event blogging.

Yes still in the same place not much improvement perhaps a little but nothing to get excited about. Few other sites dropped in the last update as well, I still have a few ranking and doing ok but I wonder to myself for how long? but conversions nowadays are slow to non-existent. Its soul destroying to watch it, I had 5 really good years I keep reminding myself of that and you adjust your income to suit at they times but hey ho I don't think this will last, well I hope not anyway.

That's good news about your testing, I hope that keeps up for you when you say paid adds are you meaning you bought some adds on the same sites your competitors were on and have just started using all brand generic keywords?

Yes keep me posted on your money site and if that bounces back to that's interesting about the other ones.

It's just a testing and trial and error process now. I do think this will settle down at some point but when is the million $ question!

I think look at what is ranking where you used to, is it parasites? and if so replicate it ( worked for me with some niches) even if just a temp measure till this settles down a bit. I don't know, I'm up for everything and anything in the testing process!

In one of my niches where I no longer exist domain wise but I am back via a parasite its full of hacked sites, twub, youtube and someone with sites that just redirect to dating sites and then my parasite and we are talking for volumes of over 15k

What I don't get is why has google ranked sites like that in niches with high volume? I can honestly say I don't see that volume reflected in my stats but they are some decent keywords that were full of tube sites for as long back as I can remember. I don't have tube sites but I always know where they are ranking when I am researching for keywords and I know a lot of them are wiped out for certain words and parasites in its place so I think its time to feed google the nonsense it so desperately seems to crave.

It's so messed up it really is.

They have scraped this right back to the bare bones to start testing and at what point do they think to themselves they have scraped back too far now?

Said I would update you on this. I made the change to the 5th money site (my biggest) and just like the others, it has bounced back. I do not think this is anything to do with the algo change on Monday, as it has followed the exact same pattern and timescale as the other 4 sites. i.e. change link anchors + number of days till bounce back (presumably how long G takes to crawl the sites and remove the algo penalty).

I have come to the conclusion that the November update for me was Anchor text driven. No idea about the core update this week, but I remain high and dry presently!

Have you seen this in any of your sites hit in November?

Could you explain these changes with the anchors in detail please? :-) Thanks a lot

Signed up for this single reason, your posts and a few others have been really helpful.

I have an affiliate site..... great content, "light gray hat" links but barely enough of them to trigger anything. Searching for my domain (site:domain.com) has results down to 12 pages, even though Google says "about 86 results".

Mobile usability in search console has this site down to 2 valid pages. 0 errors though! I've gone through and tested a lot of pages using the mobile usability checker and it's very inconsistent. Click refresh 10 times and get 10 different results. A lot of the time there is an "Other error" on resource loads. Doing some research tells me this is usually a robots.txt issue (not present on my site) or a crawl budget issue.

Every other mobile usability tester around (Bing, Merkle, etc) works fine and browsing on phone is no problem.

Mobile speed (experimental) has temporarily been slow (web host issues), but also shows a decline in pages from January 7. Desktop speed shows the same decline in pages from January 7 onwards.

The weird thing is, Coverage is supposedly business as usual:

But as another poster said, they are "Valid, Indexed, not submitted in sitemap" (these pages are definitely in the sitemap).

If I have to guess it seems this pre-update (Jan 7) brings more ranking drops to non-mobile friendly sites. At the same time, some Googlebot-mobile crawlers are having trouble rendering JS, or crawl budgets are 95% less than they used to and causing issues. Or I'm completely wrong. It's probably the last one.

Could you explain these changes with the anchors in detail please? :) Thanks a lot

If you look back at my previous replies to this thread, you will see that I had a few paid links on a couple of big sites. 3 of these sites had my link on 100+ pages (they were meant to be home page links...), so I changed the anchor text from KW to Brand and each of the 5 sites have bounced back. Non of the sites I had links on were BHW marketplace sites, just sites I had stumbled across.

There has been a lot of talk about 301 redirects, expired domains and BHW link packages etc, as to the cause of recent penalties. Given my experience across these 5 sites, the November update was nothing to do with any of those, as I use 301's, expired domains and BHW marketplace packages and the issue for me was Anchor text.

Please note - my sites tanked before the December update, so I was either a lucky early adopter of the algo change or it was totally different to the December update. Plus, I had no pages De-indexed, just disappeared from serps.

HTH

There was another update recently and it favoured you.
