Stripe Radar Blocking Legitimate Payments – How Can I Adjust Fraud Rules?

Hey everyone,

I'm facing some major problems with Stripe Radar blocking payments that pass 3D Secure (3DS) authentication. After receiving a notification that Stripe is now temporarily requiring 3DS, I noticed almost all of my transactions are being blocked with the message "highest risk of fraud" or "CVC unavailable."

(I use Shopify, Stripe is saying that issue comes from Shopify which is not true, I verified with them, and even tried other CMS)

I suspect the Risk Level Rule ("Block if risk level = 'highest'") in Stripe's Radar settings is causing this issue. I'd appreciate any guidance on how to either:

  1. Disable or adjust this rule to prevent it from blocking valid transactions.
  2. Modify my Stripe Radar settings to better align with my business needs.
  3. Understand whether the new 3DS requirement is triggering this and if it’s something I can turn off or adjust.

Has anyone had success fixing similar issues or deactivating Stripe Radar’s automatic fraud protection settings? I’m open to all suggestions.

Yes, it's very likely that the "block if risk level is highest" rule is causing the issue. You can disable or adjust it in your Stripe Radar settings. Even if a payment passes 3D Secure, Radar can still block it if it sees it as high risk. I'd recommend reviewing your rules and making them less strict to avoid false positives. The temporary 3DS requirement can't be turned off, but you can definitely fine-tune Radar to better fit your business.

Thank you for your answer, they disabled the option to deactivate that rule, but I think I solved that issue

Bro I hope you are doing great, how did you handle that issue? I am also dacing the same problem and it is damaging my business, i spoke to them and told them i don't have 1% chargeback but they are not allowing me to reduce the radar risk level from my account.

Same problem here, I can't disable that rule nor it would allow me to change any settings to allow more payments. Even manual payments are getting blocked for the same reason even tho my customers payments are genuine. I'm guessing it has to do with account age and the number of total transactions made and then they will stop blocking payments
