Even if you buy from an online exchange or from any person directly you transfer to your wallet right away. If you do not have access to your private keys the money is not yours it is same as keeping your money with any bank. What do you mean by noted done you hardware wallet keys?

I think that you do not understand well how it works. Essentially you have private key with that key you need to sign a transaction and can send money with to prove it is yours and you have a public key, this public key which is used to receive payments. If you backup your private keys, from them you can generate public keys, and are using hardware wallet you should be fine and should be in a position where it is a bit harder for you to lose your money. As the private key never leaves the hardware device

best wallet is offline wallet put in drive. but at the same time hight risk. if you lose it than that's it.
pretty sure you can read a lot of article saying lost a hardrive with btc worth million $$$. my wife/mother/etc throw it by accident, got virus, broken mean bye2.

Your question is not very accurate if you want to be anonymous I would send the payment offline > turn the raw transaction into a QR code > scan the QR code with a smart phone > push the transaction to the bitcoin network using something like https://www.blockchain.com/btc/pushtx - This will use their IP to push the transaction to the network + if there is any leak it will only be your smart phones IP.

I think what you're asking is how to store your coins securely? I would suggest a hardware wallet.
